Nghe An plans to plant 95,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice.
(Baonghean.vn) - In conditions forecasted to have many difficulties in weather, drought and pests, this summer-autumn crop season, Nghe An province has proactively taken reasonable solutions, striving to achieve 465,350 tons of food.
On the afternoon of April 8, under the chairmanship of comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department and comrade Nguyen Van Lap - Deputy Director of the Department, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to deploy the summer-autumn crop production project in 2019. Summer-autumn production this year is forecasted to take place in complicated and unusual weather conditions, with early heat waves and a high risk of drought and pests. With the goal of having a successful production season, Nghe An has determined to arrange production reasonably and effectively based on the specific conditions of each region, with safety being the top priority.
With the 2019 food production target of 1,245,680 tons, Nghe An summer-autumn crop strives to reach 465,350 tons of food. Accordingly, the whole province plans to cultivate 95,000 hectares of rice (59,000 hectares of summer-autumn crop and 36,000 hectares of winter-spring crop); 14,000 hectares of corn. In addition, 1,000 hectares of peanuts, 3,500 hectares of beans, 3,200 hectares of sesame and 9,000 hectares of vegetables of all kinds will be cultivated.

Accordingly, summer-autumn rice production follows the motto of as early as possible, putting safety first. This year's spring crop is harvested 10-15 days earlier than every year, localities need to take advantage of this to direct careful land preparation. After harvesting the spring crop, proactively plant short-term crops.
In particular, localities need to coordinate closely with irrigation units to balance sources to sign contracts to ensure adequate irrigation for the planned planting area and drought prevention for industrial crops and fruit trees, water economically and scientifically; have a plan to convert crop structure and seasons appropriately to prevent drought. This is also the production season that is considered a natural disaster and pests have complicated developments, so plant protection work needs to be focused on.

Speaking at the conference, comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested localities to coordinate well with relevant agencies to organize and implement summer-autumn production well.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development performs well the state management function in the province, establishes inspection teams, directs the production and trading of agricultural materials and agricultural products; directs affiliated units to carry out well the summer-autumn - season production. The People's Committees of districts and towns develop specific production projects, close to the actual situation of the locality and direct good implementation to maximize the available advantages; strive to have a successful summer-autumn - season production.
