(Baonghean.vn) - The price of live pigs has been increasing quite strongly recently, from 37,000 VND to 45,000 VND/kg. However, many farms in Nghe An are holding pigs waiting for the price to increase further before selling.

Mr. Tam said that consulting the pork market in recent days showed that the price increased every day, so he was not in a hurry to sell but raised more pigs hoping for a higher price before selling the 10 biggest pigs. The rest will focus on taking care of them for sale at the end of the year.
Mr. Le Duc Tinh - Head of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station of Tan Ky district said: Currently, the local pig herd has about 44,000 pigs, of which about 17,000 pigs are ready to be sold. Currently, the price of live pigs in the area has increased to 45,000 VND/kg. As the locality has controlled African swine fever early in the communes, farmers have had an advantage in selling pigs. However, many households are holding pigs and waiting for prices to increase further before selling.

Yen Thanh district is still a locality with complicated developments of African swine fever, but the price of pork here is still increasing sharply. Mr. Nguyen The Song, who specializes in pig slaughter in Yen Thanh town, said: In recent days, the price of pork has increased to 43,000 VND/kg, even super lean farm pigs are sold for over 44,000 VND/kg.
Yen Thanh district currently has 21 communes with the epidemic; because many pig farms are located in epidemic areas, the supply is showing signs of scarcity, so the price of pigs is increasing.According to pork traders at the town market, pork butt costs 90,000 VND/kg, pork belly costs 80,000 VND/kg, an increase of 10,000 VND/kg compared to 20 days ago.
Yen Thanh district is the locality with the largest pig herd in the province. As of August 25, the whole district still had about 102 thousand pigs, of which about 50% were ready for sale.

Nghe An currently has about 350,000/900,000 pigs ready for sale, however, many of these pigs are located in areas with African swine fever and cannot be sold. Therefore, localities need to do a good job of disease prevention and control to soon declare the end of the epidemic, creating conditions for people to buy, sell, transport, slaughter pigs, and restore the herd when favorable.
According to Mr. Quynh, due to the impact of African swine fever, especially in some northern provinces, a large number of pigs have to be destroyed, there will be a shortage of pigs at the end of the year, so it is predicted that meat prices will increase at the end of the year.
