A survey of the pork market in Nghe An on the morning of August 17 showed that the price of pork and breeding pigs has decreased compared to before.

Specifically, at Vinh market on the morning of August 17, pork prices fluctuated at 130,000 - 140,000 VND/kg. This price has decreased by more than 10,000 VND/kg compared to a week ago.

In Yen Thanh district, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai in Nam Thanh commune, who specializes in slaughtering pigs, said: The price of live pigs caught by small-scale farmers is currently 80,000 VND/kg, down 7,000 VND/kg compared to 10 days ago; accordingly, the price of pork has also decreased from 14,000 - 150,000 VND/kg to 130,000 - 140,000 VND/kg.

In contrast to meat prices at markets, pork prices at supermarkets remain high. Specifically, the prices of shoulder, rump, belly, and loin listed at supermarkets on the morning of August 17 ranged from 185,000 to 200,000 VND/kg.

According to supermarket sales staff, pork prices are still high because the process of importing, inspecting, processing, and canning pork takes more time and costs more than meat sold in the market.

Regarding breeding pigs, according to traders in Dien Chau, Yen Thanh, Tan Ky..., this August, the price of breeding pigs raised by farmers has decreased to 100,000 - 120,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, from July onwards, the price of breeding pigs fluctuated from 150,000 - 160,000 VND/kg.

According to analysis, the main reason for the decrease in pork prices is that the re-herd pork products have begun to be released to the market. At the same time, after the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development allowed the import of live pigs from Thailand for slaughter for food, the supply of pork has increased.

In addition, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, commercial pigs are difficult to transport to the provinces, leading to on-site consumption. In addition, the high price of pork in recent times has made people less interested in choosing, they have switched to using other foods to save on spending costs in the context of reduced income due to the epidemic, therefore, pork prices must also be lowered to avoid backlog and sluggishness.

According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, recently the price of pork in Nghe An in general has tended to decrease. Currently, the price of live pigs fluctuates from 80,000 - 86,000 VND/kg, and the price of pork sold on the market has also decreased compared to before.

It is known that in recent days, pork prices in many provinces across the country have tended to decrease sharply. Compared to the end of July, the price of live pigs for slaughter has decreased by about 7,000 - 10,000 VND/kg depending on the type.
