(Baonghean.vn) - In many summer-autumn rice fields, the silvery white color has replaced the natural green color of the rice plants. Leaf blight is raging and causing serious damage.

After the rain and storms caused by storm No. 2, nearly a hectare of rice belonging to Mrs. Vo Thi Quyen's family, hamlet 3, Dien Phuc commune, Dien Chau, which was growing well, the fresh green leaves quickly turned to pale, withered leaves due to leaf blight.

Worried about a failed crop, Mrs. Quyen said: “Since I learned to farm, I have never seen a year of rice burnt like this. In the village, many households have no rice grains. This season, we will be lucky to get 100 kg/sao of rice.”

This year, the blight disease appeared quite early compared to previous years. Mr. Nguyen Van Phu - Head of the Plant Protection and Cultivation Station of Dien Chau district said: The disease appeared from the beginning of July, when the rice began to form panicles. Farmers had sprayed pesticides to prevent the disease, but after the second storm with rain and thunderstorms, the disease spread rapidly because the rice leaves were damaged and severely scratched, especially on infected land, infected varieties and rice fields with unbalanced fertilization.

Worryingly, the small area of protected rice has caused the disease to spread quickly. After only one week (from July 26 to August 1), the area of rice infected with the disease has doubled, from 500 hectares to over 1,000 hectares.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc - Head of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, the most worrying thing now, besides various types of planthoppers, is bacterial leaf blight. The whole province currently has over 1,662 hectares of summer-autumn rice in the heading - flowering period infected with bacterial leaf blight and bacterial streak disease.

It is forecasted that in the coming time, the blight disease will continue to arise and tend to spread, causing serious damage, especially after periods of rain accompanied by strong winds, on low, swampy land, and areas with unbalanced fertilization (excess nitrogen fertilization).

Experts recommend that farmers carry out early prevention when the disease first appears or when bacterial droplets are detected (disease lesions are not yet clearly formed) with one of the following drugs: Oxolinic acid (Starner 20WP, ...); Bronopol (Xantoxin 40WP, Totan 200WP, ...); Bismerthiazol (Xanthomix 20WP, ...); Ningnamycin (Bonny 4SL, Kozuma 5WP...); Kasugamycin (Kasumin 2SL, ...); ... spray according to the recommended amount and spray again every 5 - 7 days if the disease continues to arise and develop.

Absolutely do not add nitrogen fertilizer, do not use growth stimulants or foliar fertilizers on rice fields that are infected or have been infected.
