Nghe An: More than 30,000 people have not been considered for dioxin victim benefits
(Baonghean.vn) - Those are the numbers given at the Meeting and Exchange Ceremony to honor kind-hearted people 'For victims of Agent Orange/dioxin' which took place in Hung Nguyen district on the morning of November 23.
At the ceremony, Mr. Dinh Xuan Tu, Chairman of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Nghe An province, said that since its establishment, Nghe An has had 409/481 communes, wards and towns with Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin. The Association has recruited more than 14,000 members, mainly victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin.
Nghe An currently has more than 30,000 people who participated in the resistance war and were exposed to toxic chemicals. They are old and weak, and have many diseases caused by the toxic chemicals, but they have not been considered for benefits. Only 17,000 people and 10,000 of their children are entitled to benefits for victims of Agent Orange/dioxin.

In fact, the state subsidies for the victims only partially solve the difficulties in life. Therefore, every year, the Provincial Standing Committee submits a request to the provincial leaders and the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee to organize propaganda and mobilize people, groups and individuals with goodwill to help.
From 2008 to now, many districts such as Dien Chau, Quynh Luu, Yen Thanh, Nghia Dan, Yen Thanh... have mobilized the most 400 - 600 million VND/year, the least 200 - 300 million VND/year.
Many individuals and groups have spent hundreds of millions of dong to support the victims' families, such as Mr. Bui Ngoc Hoa in Quynh Luu district, who supported 150 - 200 million dong/year, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Yen in Vinh city, who supported 10 million dong many times...

With the care and support of kind-hearted people, from 2007 to 2017, the Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims Fund received 18,741,003,848 VND. The Provincial Association Standing Committee decided to allocate money to support the construction of 246 houses, repair 17 houses, support 806 families in livestock production, grant 192 scholarships... with a total support amount of more than 17,249,796,690 VND. The timely support from the Provincial Association initially created conditions for victims to overcome difficulties, improve their lives, contribute to hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and community integration.
