Nghe An responds to Earth Hour 2020 campaign
(Baonghean.vn) - Responding to the Earth Hour 2020 campaign, Nghe An Electricity Company calls on organizations, agencies and customers to turn off lights and unnecessary equipment during the event from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2020.
Earth Hour is an annual international event initiated by the World Wildlife Fund, first held in 2007 in Sydney (Australia) and spreading to most countries with thousands of major cities around the world participating. The most prominent activity of the campaign is the event where agencies, offices, businesses and households participate in turning off lights and electrical equipment that do not significantly affect daily life for 60 minutes (from 20:30 to 21:30 local time) on the last Saturday of March every year.

Vietnam started participating in Earth Hour in 2009, with a variety of response activities. Not only calling for turning off lights for 60 minutes to promote electricity saving, but also promoting energy saving and environmental protection such as using renewable energy, reducing plastic waste, and not using illegal wildlife products.
According to statistics, during the 60-minute lights-off period of Earth Hour 2019, Nghe An province saved 25,000 kWh, the whole country saved 492,000 kWh, equivalent to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 425 tons of CO.2.

In 2020, the Earth Hour Campaign in Vietnam was organized by WWF-Vietnam under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The theme of the Earth Hour 2020 message focuses on activities to promote saving behaviors, efficient use of energy sources, increased use of renewable energy, clean energy; reuse and recycle waste, fight against plastic waste, protect wildlife... Thereby, the Vietnamese people together with the international community will better achieve the goals of responding to climate change and protecting the green planet.

Responding to the Earth Hour Campaign 2020, Nghe An Electricity Company has implemented many specific programs and activities at units throughout the province. In coordination with local authorities and organizations, unions, press agencies, and local information systems, many forms of propaganda have been implemented that are breakthrough and effective in practice, affecting many customer groups in transforming awareness into actions of using electricity economically and effectively, promoting the Earth Hour Campaign 2020 and electricity saving activities in Nghe An province.
Nghe An Electricity Company also requires all employees to set an example in their own homes and mobilize households in the residential area to turn off unnecessary lighting and other electrical equipment during the event.
The leader of Nghe An Power Company said: In the context of the complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, there will be no mass activities such as cycling to cheer or the Earth Hour Lights-Off Event Night. Instead, Nghe An Power Company will promote online propaganda on websites, fanpages, social networks Facebook, Zalo; through publications, video clips, running text on screens about the content of saving electricity and protecting the environment at customer transaction locations, headquarters of power units in the whole province. Activities must ensure practicality, aiming at saving energy and protecting the environment.

With the message "Turn off lights and unnecessary electrical equipment" from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2020, each organization and individual, based on actual conditions, responds to participate in the Earth Hour event.
Communities, businesses, agencies and units should change together, turn off unnecessary electrical equipment for 1 hour and more. Each small action will bring great meaning, contributing to changing public awareness about environmental protection, energy saving, responding to climate change, contributing to preserving the country's natural resources, not only today, but also for future generations.
