Nghe An responds to World No Tobacco Day 2018
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 28, the Steering Committee for Tobacco Harm Prevention of Nghe An province organized a rally to respond to World No Tobacco Day (May 31) and National No Tobacco Week (May 25 - 31, 2018).

According to statistics, every year in Vietnam, about 40 thousand people die from diseases related to smoking, not to mention 70% of women and 50% of children whose health is significantly affected by passive smoking.
In Nghe An alone, according to a 2017 survey, the smoking rate is over 21%; the average smoking age is 22.5 with an average of over 8.6 cigarettes per day.

Responding to World No Tobacco Day and National No Tobacco Week 2018, Nghe An actively carried out a widespread propaganda campaign on tobacco harm prevention to all cadres, civil servants, public employees and all classes of people in the whole province; strengthening the implementation of regulations on smoke-free environments...

In particular, through the theme “Tobacco and cardiovascular disease”, Nghe An province calls on the entire community to take timely and effective actions to reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases related to tobacco use.

After the rally, more than 100 union members and young people in the health sector participated in a parade on the streets of Vinh city, conveying the messages: "Tobacco is the main cause of cardiovascular disease"; "Everyone has the right to live and work in a smoke-free environment"; "For a green, smoke-free environment"... to the community./.
