Nghe An province opens a class to teach the traditional folk songs of the Ví and Giặm genres.

On the morning of July 21st, the Nghe An Provincial Traditional Arts Center held the opening ceremony for a class teaching folk songs (ví and giặm) to talented students in the community.

Attending the opening ceremony were Ms. Quach Thi Cuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; leaders of the Provincial Traditional Arts Center; and more than 30 children selected from communes and wards throughout the province.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, musician Tran Quoc Chung - Deputy Director of the Provincial Traditional Arts Center - emphasized:Ví and Giặm are specialties of Nghe An province.With its enduring vitality, the folk songs of Nghe Tinh are a precious heritage in the Vietnamese cultural treasury, recognized by UNESCO as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity. To preserve and promote the values ​​of the folk songs of Nghe Tinh, for the past four years, Nghe An province has opened classes to teach these songs to talented students in primary and secondary schools throughout the province.

The purpose of organizing classes to teach folk singing talents in the Ví and Giặm styles is to guide and teach gifted high school students the basic melodies; to identify, guide, train, and nurture talents to create a pool of performers for professional art units and core cultural figures for the local arts movement.

Over 12 days, the course will introduce and teach students about the characteristics and nature of Ví melodies; practice Ví and Giặm melodies; practice Hò melodies; and adapted melodies…

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Quach Thi Cuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: "The 30 students participating in today's training course were selected from 130 communes and wards in the province. These are students who are truly passionate and talented, and we hope that through this training course, they will spread the art of folk songs and traditional music to more places."

At the opening ceremony, Comrade Quách Thị Cường also requested that the artists use their knowledge and experience to impart skills in various ways so that the children can best absorb the practical techniques. It is hoped that through this training course, many of these young people will become talented folk singers of the Ví and Giặm styles in the future.
