Nghe An: Drilling deeper than -40m to find domestic water

(Baonghean.vn) - Entering the peak of the hot season, many people in Anh Son have to hire well drillers to ensure water for daily life and to prevent drought for crops.

Although it was almost noon, under the scorching sun, Nguyen Quang Ca was still struggling with a malfunctioning drill. The broken machine made his well drilling longer and more difficult.

Mr. Ca shared: In 2007, he invested 200 million VND to buy a drilling rig. Every year from April to July, his work is very busy, continuously moving the drilling rig to many places inside and outside the district. During peak months, his drilling rig drills 6-7 wells, after deducting expenses, he earns about 15 million VND/month.

During peak months, Mr. Nguyen Quang Ca's drilling rig in Tan Lam village, Cam Son commune, drilled 6-7 wells. The deepest well was about 50 m.

Working under the sun to drill a well for a local resident, Nguyen Minh Hiep in Tan Lam village, Cam Son commune said: Well drilling is also a matter of luck, whether there is water or not depends on the underground water source.

On the first day, the drill bit encountered soft soil, so it worked more easily, drilling about 20m each day. Usually, on the second and third days, when encountering hard rock, the driller could only drill 8-10m/day. The driller had to assign one person to operate the machine, while the other pulled the drill pipe up, cleaned it, and put it back down. In addition, the priming water level in the adjacent hole had to be constantly monitored to provide enough water for the drilling rig to operate.

Well drilling is a high-income profession but is only seasonal during the dry season.

With many years of experience drilling wells, Mr. Hiep said: After the drill bit passes through the surface soil layer, young rock, to the hard rock layer with a depth of about 50m but still does not find a water vein, then 80% of the time the well has no water.

In recent years, due to the very low groundwater level in the dry season, many rig owners face the risk of contract default.

Currently, the price of drilling each well depends on each well, ranging from 6 - 10 million VND, on average each well must be 40 m deep, drilling continuously for 2 - 3 days.

The work is hard but well drilling is also a matter of luck. There are many times when the well driller cannot find a water source and has to give up.

Currently, in Anh Son district, there are 25-30 drilling machines specializing in drilling wells throughout the district and neighboring districts such as Con Cuong and Tuong Duong. During this season, the drilling team is always "full" because of the large number of people who need to rent.
