Loading and unloading goods at Cua Lo Port
According to a report from the Department of Industry and Trade, in the first three months of 2013, more than 70 businesses in Nghe An province participated in export activities, of which 16 businesses achieved export turnover of 1 million USD or more. Notable examples include Nghe An Import-Export Joint Stock Company with nearly 6 million USD, Bac Hong Lam Joint Stock Company with 3.4 million USD, Thanh Thanh Dat Limited Company with over 16 million USD, and Xuri Viet Trung Seafood By-product Processing Limited Company with nearly 4 million USD…
Some typical export items include wood chips: over 100,000 tons were exported, generating over US$18 million in revenue, an increase of nearly 3.5 times compared to the same period in 2012 (US$5.4 million). The average export price of wood chips was approximately US$122.64/ton, a 7% increase compared to the average price in the same period of 2012. Wood chips were mainly exported to the Chinese market, with two participating enterprises: Thanh Thanh Dat Co., Ltd. (US$16.4 million) and the Joint Venture and Paper Raw Material Processing Company (US$1.8 million).
Cassava and cassava starch are also traditional export items for businesses in the province. Exports in the first three months reached 32,000 tons, with a value of 13.7 million USD. The majority of exports went to China, with eight businesses participating. Among them, the Import-Export Joint Stock Company had the largest export value at 5.7 million USD, followed by Bac Hong Lam Trading Joint Stock Company at 3.3 million USD. The average export price for this product was approximately 430 USD/ton, a slight increase compared to the average price in the same period of 2012.
Mr. Vo Minh Tuan, Deputy Head of the Import-Export Department of the Department of Industry and Trade, said: "In the first quarter, we also witnessed the efforts of seafood export businesses. Although the quantity is not large and the export value is not high, there has been a breakthrough compared to previous periods, when this product had no export value at all. In the first three months of the year, the seafood group exported 3.4 tons, reaching 4 million USD, double the amount in the same period of 2012. This group mainly exports to China and Laos, with Xuri Viet Trung Seafood Processing Company Limited and Phuong Mai Company Limited participating in the export."
In the first three months of the year, businesses exported over 26 product categories/groups to 33 countries and regions worldwide. The largest market was China, with export value reaching nearly $26 million, accounting for over 60% of total export value. Other notable markets included Laos with $4.3 million (10.2%), South Korea with $3 million (6.1%), and India with nearly $2 million (4.5%).
