Nghe An: Blood reserves are very low

In 2019, the voluntary blood donation work in Nghe An province continued to develop and achieved many important achievements. The direction and organization of implementation from the province to the grassroots level were carried out carefully, seriously and scientifically, so the blood collection campaigns were increasingly effective and achieved high results.
The propaganda and mobilization work for voluntary blood donation and blood diseases has been given due attention and investment, with the right focus. The forms of propaganda and mobilization have been increasingly improved in both quality and diversity, thereby expanding the number of people accessing blood donation.

In 2020, the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation of Nghe An province set a goal of mobilizing 98,000 people to register for voluntary blood donation; receiving 33,000 units of blood, basically ensuring blood needs for emergency and treatment in hospitals throughout the province.

Concluding the meeting, comrade Bui Dinh Long praised the efforts of the steering committee members, levels and sectors, especially the Provincial Red Cross Society and the Nghe An Provincial Blood Transfusion Center.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, blood donation activities in Nghe An are currently facing many difficulties. The amount of blood in reserve at the Provincial Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center is only 1,600 units. This amount of blood is only enough to meet the treatment activities of the province until the end of February 2020.
To meet the demand for blood for emergency and treatment of patients, Nghe An Provincial Labor Federation and Nghe An Red Cross will organize a voluntary blood donation festival for workers and employees. The festival has the theme "Voluntary blood donation - double joy", scheduled to be held on March 1, 2020, with the participation of 400 people.
At the meeting, leaders of the Provincial People's Committee and members of the Steering Committee discussed ways to organize the Festival to ensure safety in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic./.
