Nghe An: On the 2nd day of Tet, bus fares to other provinces increased by 45%
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of the second day of the Lunar New Year, many bus companies have started to transport passengers to other provinces and cities. According to research, ticket prices from Nghe An to other localities after Tet have increased sharply.
On the second day of Tet, at Vinh bus station, all sleeper bus companies "opened" for the new year. On the Vinh - Hanoi route, besides Van Minh, Phuc Loi... the price remained the same (225,000 VND/ticket), while many other buses increased their ticket prices.

A representative of Nghe An Bus Station Joint Stock Company said: The unit has planned to serve passenger transportation during the 2018 Mau Tuat New Year. Accordingly, due to the high demand for travel during Tet, bus fares will increase by 30-40% from the 2nd to the 10th of Tet.
This unit expects that after Tet, the number of passengers passing through the bus station will increase by about 10%, equivalent to more than 200,000 passengers. Therefore, the company has planned to increase by 20-30 trips compared to normal days. The unit has proposed to the Department of Transport to mobilize more vehicles to meet customer needs.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung - Head of Transport Management Department, Department of Transport added: Particularly for Tet, the Department of Transport has agreed with businesses and transport companies not to increase ticket prices for intra-provincial routes and routes from Nghe An to Ha Tinh. For inter-provincial routes, according to registrations of businesses and individuals, there are over 90 routes with bus fares increasing from 30 - 45%. Mainly the routes Vinh - Saigon, Vinh - Hanoi. (Bus fares will increase from the 2nd to the 10th of Tet).

If the buses registered for fixed routes operating in bus stations increase their fares reasonably, the buses outside the route that are hiding under the guise of contract buses increase their fares indiscriminately. Specifically, in Yen Thanh district, the normal sleeper bus fare to Hanoi is 150,000 VND/ticket, but on the second day of Tet, it increases to 250,000 VND/ticket. The bus fare to Ho Chi Minh City is normally 700,000 VND/person/ticket, but now all bus companies have increased it to 1.6 million VND/person/ticket.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung - Head of Transport Management Department, Department of Transport shared more: According to regulations, transport businesses are allowed to increase ticket prices during Tet to compensate for the low number of passengers in the opposite direction. Fixed-route bus companies build their own ticket prices and then submit them to the Department of Transport for approval.
However, the management agency has not yet grasped and handled the unreasonable increase in ticket prices of many bus companies.
