Nghe An: Hot weather, lakes and dams exposed, fields cracked
(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An has 96 reservoirs managed by enterprises, currently only 4 reservoirs are full of water, the remaining 82 reservoirs have water levels only reaching over 50%. Particularly, reservoirs managed by localities only reach 30 - 40% of water volume, of which some reservoirs have exhausted their water sources.

In the fields of Hamlet 14, Lam Son Commune (Do Luong), all the fields are cracked. Farmer Tran Van Quy said: His family has 8 sao of land, but can only cultivate 2 sao, the remaining 6 sao are left fallow due to lack of water. 2 sao of rice have just been planted, but because the dam water is depleted, it is dry, if the weather continues to be hot and sunny, it will burn to death.
Mr. Le Van Bieu - Chairman of Lam Son Commune People's Committee shared: According to the plan, this summer-autumn crop, Lam Son commune planted more than 380 hectares, but up to this point, only 300 hectares have been planted, the remaining 80 hectares cannot be planted due to lack of water. Currently, the whole commune has more than 70 hectares of rice that have been affected by drought in the area dependent on reservoir water.
According to Mr. Bieu, Lam Son commune has 9 large and small reservoirs, most of which are dry, especially Bau Khe, Dong Ho, and Nha Huu reservoirs, which have dried up. Many people living around this area are also facing a shortage of domestic water.

This summer-autumn crop, Do Luong planted over 7,000 hectares, currently about 1,000 hectares are lacking water.
Mr. Tran Ngoc Thuan - Head of the Department of Agriculture of Do Luong district said: Do Luong has over 90 large and small reservoirs, of which 70% of the reservoirs managed by the locality have run out of water, concentrated in the communes of Giang Son Dong, Hong Son, My Son, Lam Son, Bai Son... If the hot weather continues, Do Luong will have over 2,000 hectares of rice affected by drought, mainly concentrated in the reservoir area.

In Tan Ky district, there are 115 large and small dams, of which over 70 dams currently have water levels of only over 30%, unable to provide enough water to irrigate many rice fields.
The entire Tan Ky district has planted over 4,700 hectares of rice, up to this point over 600 hectares of rice have been lacking water in the communes of Nghia Phuc, Nghia Hanh, Giai Xuan, Dong Van...

According to the report of the Irrigation Department, the whole province has 96 reservoirs managed by enterprises with low water levels. Of which, only 4 reservoirs are still full, the remaining 92 reservoirs have water levels only above 50%. Particularly, the reservoirs managed by localities only have 30 - 40% of water capacity, of which some reservoirs have exhausted their water sources.

In 2019, the whole province planted over 85,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice, of which the reservoir area alone was over 15,000 hectares. Currently, the reservoir area is suffering from drought of about 3,000 hectares, concentrated in the districts of Tan Ky, Anh Son, Thanh Chuong, Do Luong, Con Cuong, Que Phong, Quy Chau, Quy Hop, Nghia Dan, Yen Thanh, Quynh Luu, etc.
