Nghe An: Hot weather, electricity consumption increases to record level
(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An's electricity consumption during hot days has increased from 9.8 million kWh to 11.5 million kWh - the highest ever.
In recent days, due to the extremely hot weather, the demand for electricity consumption for daily life in the province has increased dramatically, the total power consumption of the province has continuously increased. On normal days, the average power consumption reaches 9.8 million - 10.3 million kWh/day; the system's maximum capacity is 485Mw. During the hot days of last week, the load increased, fluctuating from 10.8 million - 11.5 million kWh/day.
Mr. Nguyen Van Binh - Head of the Dispatch Department, Nghe An Electricity Company said that on August 12 (Saturday) alone, the total electricity consumption of the province increased to 11.5 million kWh - the highest ever; the system's Max capacity reached 567Mw. The prolonged, severe heat has led to a sudden increase in electricity demand, mainly due to the use of air conditioners and cooling devices, leading to the risk of overloading the local power grid in some areas. Yesterday, August 13, the 473 Ben Thuy power line supplying electricity to Hung Binh and Hung Phuc wards (Vinh City) had a problem, causing many households in the area to lose power from 11:30 p.m. on August 13 to 2 a.m. on August 14.
“Currently, the power system is operating stably, all sources and grid systems meet the needs of daily life and production. In the coming time, the electricity industry has a plan to upgrade and repair the grid, but if it is as hot as the past few days, we will temporarily stop repairing to meet the electricity needs of the people,” said a representative of Nghe An Electricity Company.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from now until the weekend, the heat wave in the North and Central regions will continue. To ensure safe and continuous power supply, it is necessary to turn off unnecessary electrical equipment and limit the use of electrical equipment during peak hours. In agencies and offices, it is necessary to use electricity economically and effectively, especially when the hot weather lasts for a long time. Especially when using air conditioners, it is necessary to pay attention to keep them in optimal mode, only set at 26 degrees Celsius or higher, to both ensure power saving and minimize the risk of local overload of the power grid./.
