Nghe An: Schools and students proactively review before the 2023 high school graduation exam
(Baonghean.vn) - Instead of waiting until July, many 12th graders are now preparing for the 2023 university entrance exam. The organization of teaching and learning at schools is also being proactively changed to adapt to the new situation.
Pressure and effort
Lo Van Ty - a student of class 12A3 - Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities No. 2 is "nurturing" the goal of taking the entrance exam to the People's Police Academy. Growing up in Cam Muon commune, Que Phong district, having been away from home for 3 years to study in a boarding environment, up to this point, Ty is accelerating his review to simultaneously prepare for 2 important upcoming exams, which are the competency assessment exam and the high school graduation exam. In addition to the 6 compulsory subjects of the high school graduation exam, Ty spends time reviewing subjects such as: Language, Mathematics, Logical Thinking, Data Analysis and finally problem solving (related to subjects such as Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geography and History) for the competency exam.

With a heavy amount of knowledge, while there are less than 5 months left until the exam, despite the pressure, Lo Van Ty still tries to arrange his review time reasonably.
Lo Van Ty said: I wake up at 4am and spend about 2 hours studying the subjects I memorize. During class time, I try to grasp the basic knowledge. In the afternoon and evening, I arrange my studies by subject, both studying theory and solving problems. I am not too worried about the exam.high school graduation exam2023, because I think if I try hard, I can do well. However, with the competency assessment exam, it will be more difficult because there are many subjects, the exam format is new and the exam questions are more difficult than other exams.
The graduation exam and university entrance exam are always an important “test” for teachers and students at the Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2. Last year, the school was among the top in the province with many students admitted to famous universities nationwide. This year, the pressure is even heavier, forcing teachers and students of the school to always strive to achieve better results than last year.

In class 12D - Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities No. 2, teacher Le Sa - the homeroom teacher of the class said: We have built a clear review plan so that students can review with high results. In which, we divide them into many groups; in which, the good group must set a goal of achieving 9 and above in all subjects. Currently, we have carefully analyzed the previous year's exam questions of the Ministry of Education and Training and have also increased the questions for excellent students. Up to this point, the students have mastered the types of questions. In addition to the homeroom teacher's plan, we also orientate more competency assessment exams, refer to more sets of questions for students to get acquainted with.

Not having the advantage of being admitted based on academic records like students of specialized schools, Nguyen Mai Ngoc Huyen - a student of class 12A1 - Nam Dan 1 High School is currently focusing on spending time studying for the competency assessment exam. Previously, with the goal of passing the Logistics major - National Economics University, one of the leading majors and universities today, in the first semester, Huyen had completed the criteria to increase her chances of being admitted, which is achieving IELTS 7.0 and achieving the title of Provincial Excellent Student.
I feel very worried because every year the admission criteria of universities are different and increasingly difficult. I hope that by implementing many criteria at the same time, I will have the opportunity to be admitted to the university of my dreams.
Actively review for exams
The Ministry of Education and Training said that the 2023 high school graduation exam will basically remain stable, avoiding disruption for students. However, in reality, for 12th graders, relying on graduation exam results for university admission seems to be no longer certain. Instead, students are considering many other options to avoid being passive as the exam season approaches.

At class 12D - Le Viet Thuat High School (Vinh City), with more than 40 students, teacher Le Viet Ha - homeroom teacher of the class said: We have been guiding students on career choices and university entrance exams since they entered grade 10. Besides, there is currently a lot of information that is updated regularly, so students are also proactive in choosing the appropriate form. Currently, in class 12D, nearly half of our students have IELTS certificates and they will consider this as a secondary criterion to apply to universities, of which, 5 students have had results of 7.0 or higher. Some students are ready for admission based on their transcripts. In addition, students can get their high school graduation exam results and participate in competency assessment exams of many different universities.
To prepare for the upcoming important exams, teacher Le Viet Ha also said that it is necessary to classify early to be able to advise promptly: Depending on the ability, we will guide the students in the appropriate direction to choose the right one to suit their interests and abilities. In addition, we also regularly discuss with parents to develop a long-term plan, avoiding consulting close to the exam, which will not be able to keep up.
What we hope for now is that the Ministry of Education and Training organizes a serious, objective exam that differentiates candidates. On the school side, we will focus on reviewing the exam, both consolidating knowledge and carefully analyzing the Ministry's sample exam questions, and the core knowledge groups. In addition, we will equip students with basic skills, both reviewing for graduation exams and reviewing subjects by block so that they can get high scores for admission to universities.

At Do Luong 4 High School, the plan for mock exams for students has just been completed and in mid-February, 12th graders will take all subjects, similar to the high school graduation exam. From now until the exam date, the school also plans to organize about 3 more exams, of which the most important exam will be held at the end of June and is considered the final rehearsal for the official exam.
Through discussion, teacher Nguyen Quoc Dung - Principal of Do Luong 4 High School said: Our school is far from the center, there are many students with difficult circumstances, so the number of students who have the conditions to go to big cities to take the competency assessment exams is not much. Besides, the number of students with foreign language certificates is also very rare. Therefore, we determined that the main goal for university admission is still to get the score from the high school graduation exam.
To equip students with sufficient knowledge, right from the beginning of the school year, the school assigned responsibilities to each teacher and each professional group and planned teaching activities to suit each group, tutoring weak students and nurturing students with enough capacity to be admitted to top schools.
Through the learning and testing process, Do Luong 4 High School requires teachers to carefully analyze each student's results to have an effective review plan. In addition, carefully analyze each sample test, compare with previous years' test to build a review outline close to the program. The school will also organize afternoon review sessions for students in all subjects and students will register according to their wishes. During the review process, select a team of good, experienced teachers and prepare alternative plans for teachers if there is an emergency to avoid being passive in reviewing for students...
Previously, in the 2021-2022 school year, despite being located in a difficult area, the quality of the high school graduation exam at Do Luong 4 High School still ranked 11th in the province. Therefore, the solutions successfully applied last year are being persistently implemented by the school with the desire to create for students the best knowledge foundation and mindset for the exams in 2023.

To prepare for the upcoming exams, at the end of the first semester, the Department of Education and Training also organized a trial exam across the province via the LMS system and the exam results were sent to schools.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Head of Secondary Education Department (Department of Education and Training) also said: This is a practical basis for schools to evaluate the capacity and quality of education of grade 12. From there, we ask schools to analyze and compare to come up with effective teaching and review plans.
It is known that in the 2023 high school graduation exam, Nghe An Education sector aims to increase its ranking, compared to the 20th position of the 2022 high school graduation exam.
