(Baonghean.vn) - Automatic irrigation models using solar energy are evaluated as very promising both scientifically and economically for agricultural production areas that do not have the conditions to use grid electricity.

On the morning of November 5, the Department of Science and Technology held a workshop on "Evaluating the effectiveness ofautomatic irrigation modelsolar energyfor some agricultural production areas in Nghe An province".

Nghe An is considered one of the regions with natural conditions very suitable for developing solar power with an average number of sunshine hours from 1,800-2,100 hours per year, average annual solar radiation intensity from 4.6 - 5.2 kWh/m2/day. However, currently, the results of exploiting solar energy compared to the real potential are still very modest.

Assessing the importance of using solar power in production and life, in Notice No. 436/TB-UBND dated July 31, 2020 on the Notice of Conclusion of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duc Trung at the regular meeting of the Provincial People's Committee in July 2020, the Department of Science and Technology was directed to advise the Provincial People's Committee on the policy of using solar energy in some applications in life.

Since 2020, the Center for Advanced Applicationscience and technologyhas been assigned to build 5 automatic irrigation models using solar energy for some key agricultural production areas in the province, with 2 types of systems implemented in 2 phases, applied to crops: Fruit trees, tea, pineapple, in the districts: Anh Son, Thanh Chuong, Thai Hoa, Nghia Dan and Quynh Luu.

Up to now, the unit has completed synchronous technical processes for production and installation of systems to suit different agricultural production terrains.

After field inspections at models in Quynh Luu, Nghia Dan districts and Thai Hoa town, delegates all acknowledged the effectiveness of applying automatic irrigation using solar energy in helping plants grow well, increasing yield and quality of crops, ensuring adequate irrigation water, bringing clear economic efficiency to cooperatives and people.

Using an automatic irrigation system using solar energy, in addition to improving the quality of crops, also saves investment and operating costs compared to using other energy sources to provide irrigation water.

According to calculations, if applying the model from 2 - 3 hectares in the first year, it will only cost about 92 million VND, lower than using a generator system (115 million VND) and using national grid electricity (100 million VND). From the second year onwards, the cost of using solar energy is only about 8.2 million VND/year.

With the above achievements, the automatic irrigation model using solar energy will be submitted by the Department of Science and Technology to the Provincial People's Committee.more widely in the coming time with many localities and many different types of crops.
