In just 2 months, February and March 2012, Vinh City Police recorded traffic safety violations by 38 students from 3 junior high schools, 10 high schools and 2 colleges. Among them, there were 4 cases of riding bicycles and 34 cases of riding motorbikes. The schools with the most students who were recorded were: Le Quy Don High School (7), Huynh Thuc Khang High School 6, Specialized High School of Vinh University (4), Nguyen Trai High School (4).
All four cyclists intentionally ran red lights; the motorcyclists committed the following offenses: driving without a license, not carrying vehicle registration, not wearing a helmet, changing lanes without signaling, carrying more passengers than allowed, and towing another vehicle. Furthermore, two students from Nguyen Trai High School even obstructed law enforcement officers.
The Vinh City Police have sent notifications to education and training management agencies, schools, and ward/commune police to coordinate measures in educating and handling students who violate regulations.
In general, at intersections, students frequently run red lights. We suggest that families and schools strengthen education and implement strict disciplinary measures to reduce traffic violations among students, which can easily lead to accidents.
