That is the sharing of Ngu Ha Trang, class 12C2, Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, National First Prize in History. Ha Trang said, this year she made 4 sets of documents with the first wish being to enter the University of Law.

According to Ha Trang, before the national exam, she knew that very few schools would directly admit students who won national prizes in History because this is a "special and difficult to recruit" subject.

Therefore, when informed that she would not be admitted directly but only be considered for priority admission to Hanoi Law University, Ha Trang was not too surprised because she had already decided to take the National High School Exam with her friends.

Ha Trang confided that, like many other students, the decision to take the National Gifted Student Exam was to test herself and evaluate her own abilities after years of specialized study, seeing it as an intellectual playground and also to repay the teachers' teachings. Being admitted directly or given priority in admission is not too important to them.

Regarding knowledge for the exam, because we have studied and practiced for 3 years, catching up with the program after several months of focusing on reviewing for the national team is a bit difficult, but as long as everyone tries harder, we can still catch up with our friends.

However, like many other candidates this year, due to the rapid change in the exam schedule and method and the late announcement, Ha Trang felt confused.

Change your wishes when the industry chooses not to accept direct admission

Cao Nguyen Quynh Trang, a 12th grade student at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, won second prize in the National Literature Competition. She said she has registered for five university entrance exams. With second prize in the National Literature Competition, Quynh Trang was directly admitted to several schools that train teachers in Literature.

When applying, her first choice was to enter the People's Security Academy, and her second choice was to enter the Hanoi Law University. Compared to her original intention, Quynh Trang's first and second choices were swapped when she learned that the Law University only considered priority admission and did not accept direct admission. It is known that at the People's Security Academy, Quynh Trang was not accepted directly but only received an additional 1.5 points for her second prize in Literature in the National Excellent Student Exam.

According to Trang, this year, direct admission for many national students at many major universities has begun to be tightened, however, the late announcement forced her to change her wishes and choose to take the National High School Exam.

“Many students who won national prizes in social sciences like me decided to take the National High School Exam. Getting extra points for the National Excellent Student Exam is also an advantage, although after the time of preparing for the national team, many students like me have to work hard to get the best results.”

I don't feel disadvantaged because I wasn't recruited directly into the major I like.

Nguyen Luu Canh Hao, class 12 C5, Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, won third prize in the National Excellent Student Contest in English and also won many scholarships to study abroad. He said that although he was admitted directly and had a scholarship to study abroad, Hao still took the National High School Exam with his friends. Canh Hao said that he registered for 7 wishes, focusing mainly on the Foreign Trade University and the National Economics University.

As with social sciences, only English majors at universities accept direct admission to national English winners. If they want to apply for other majors, students who win national prizes can only be given priority admission or extra points. And the number of points added depends on each prize, depending on each school's regulations.

Canh Hao said: "Although I was not admitted directly to the major I like, I do not feel disadvantaged because I still have more priorities than my friends."

Regarding the current changes in the National High School Exam, Canh Hao frankly shared: "I see that this is a familiar form in many developed countries and has the potential to bring about expected results. However, the way it is applied is a bit too fast, without careful preparation, causing difficulties for students, parents and teachers.

Regarding teachers, due to changes, many people have different ideas about the exam questions, so the way they create questions and review for students is also different. This also makes students and parents confused about their abilities.

This makes the exam quite risky when some students learn the right method, while others do not. Although there are also classification questions, if compared to the old essay questions, the comprehensive assessment of students' abilities will not be as good."

Phan Tuan Dat, a 12th grade A3 student, second prize winner in the National Physics Competition and participating in the international competition, said that because he participated in the international competition, he was given special admission to many universities and did not need to participate in this year's National High School Exam.

According to Dat, students in the natural sciences who win national prizes have more options than those in the social sciences. Because most of the majors that students currently want to study, such as economics, banking, pharmacy, etc., give priority to students who win national prizes in natural sciences.

Therefore, many students who won the National Natural Science Prize were admitted directly to their desired major, so the high school exam for these students was quite easy and without any pressure.
