The entire Quynh Luu district has 650 hectares of intensive shrimp farming, mainly concentrated in the communes of Quynh Bang, Quynh Thanh, Quynh Luong, An Hoa... Mr. Vo Anh Tuan, owner of a shrimp farm in Quynh Yen commune, said that this year's farming season, his family has invested billions of dong, of which the cost of waterproofing tarpaulin to line the bottom of the pond for 1 hectare is about 500 million dong, 3-4 times higher than the previous conventional pond treatment method. This type of tarpaulin can be used continuously for 10 years and during the shrimp farming process. Photo: Xuan Hoang. |

In addition to lining the ponds with tarpaulins, Quynh Luu villagers also cover the ponds to prevent disease-carrying insects from entering the shrimp ponds. Photo: Quang An. |

Quynh Bang Commune is the locality with the largest shrimp farming area in the district with more than 100 hectares of shrimp ponds concentrated in Mai Giang 1, Mai Giang 2 hamlets and Loc Thuy parish. To prepare the conditions for shrimp farming in the first crop, people are urgently treating the ponds, installing aeration systems... This is the first time Mr. Ha Van Cuong and his friends from Yen Thanh district have come to Quynh Bang commune, Quynh Luu district to contract over 2 hectares of land for shrimp farming. From the initial pond, he rented machinery to build embankments, creating many ponds for shrimp farming worth nearly 1 billion VND. Photo: Viet Hung |

Mr. Cuong shared that his shrimp pond was built quite elaborately; 2 settling ponds and 2 rearing ponds were lined with black tarpaulin (this is a type of tarpaulin that is impermeable, limiting toxic gases during the rearing process); then hired workers and excavators to dig 20 meters deep in the settling pond to place a culvert; the function of placing the culvert is to drain as well as supply water to the rearing pond. Through this system, people can detect the rate of shrimp death or molting to handle it promptly. Photo: Viet Hung |

In the shrimp farming area of Quynh Thanh commune, all ponds are treated with lime powder by the people. After applying lime, water is taken in through a fine mesh or kate cloth. Fill the pond once before treating and coloring the water. Photo: Viet Hung |
