No one knows where Lo Thi Phuong - Class 8B monitor of Xa Luong Secondary School (Tuong Duong) has gone. |
In the scorching summer sun, we went to Khe Ngau village, Xa Luong commune (Tuong Duong) to meet Mr. and Mrs. Lo Truong Giang (Phuong's parents). The house with a cement roof and bamboo walls was precariously located on the edge of a hill, with wind blowing from all sides, and there was nothing valuable inside. At this point, Lo Thi Phuong (born in 2002, 8th grade student) had left home for about 3 weeks, her parents were still absent-minded, no longer in the mood to do anything.

The makeshift house, with almost nothing of value inside, belongs to Lo Thi Phuong's family. |
Anxiety and pain were always evident on the faces of this Thai couple. Mr. Giang recounted: “On the night of April 26, Phuong asked her parents for permission to sleep at a friend’s house. The next morning, when she didn’t come back, I called her and she choked up: “Dad! I’m gone, I’m not coming back!” I asked her where she went, but she didn’t answer and hung up.”

Phuong is the eldest daughter, after Phuong she has a younger brother in 6th grade. At home, Phuong always diligently helps her parents with chores, from collecting firewood, cooking to cleaning the house. Every school year, she receives certificates of merit for her academic achievements and clean notebooks, beautiful handwriting, certificates of merit and certificates posted all over the house. Giang and his wife hope that their eldest daughter will go further in her studies, looking for a future. Unexpectedly, at only 14 years old, Phuong left her family and dropped out of school.

Meanwhile, Ms. Luong Thi Be, Phuong's mother, was absent-mindedly going in and out, tears welling up in her eyes, touching the bicycle, the simple study table and the school bag, which her eldest daughter had been attached to for all these years. According to Ms. Be, Phuong left home with Cut Thi Yen (also born in 2002), who lived in the same village, and both are currently working in the garment industry in the South. And she hopes that is true, "praying that she has a decent job, that no one has kidnapped or sold her" - Ms. Be shared.

Phuong left home, her desk became empty. |
We continued to visit Cut Thi Yen's house. Yen's mother, Cut Thi Hai, said: "The day Yen left, I was in the field so I didn't know. When I got home, she called to say she had arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, with Phuong, the two of them were working in garment industry there." It is known that Cut Thi Yen, although still young, has left her family to work far away several times. Currently, Yen has an older sister, Cut Thi Phuong (born in 1999), who is in China.

The bicycle that usually takes Phuong to school now lies still in the corner of the house. |
Talking to us, Ms. Truong Thi Thanh - homeroom teacher of class 8B - Xa Luong Secondary School said: "Lo Thi Phuong is the best student in the class, hard-working, obedient, and was elected class monitor by her classmates. In the last class before leaving, she sent her class monitoring book to a friend sitting next to her. Phuong left, I was really surprised, I called her but she didn't answer, I only knew how to go to her house to encourage her parents". I hope Phuong will return soon to continue studying, I hope she doesn't fall into the "trap" set by bad people.
Sharing the same sentiment, Mr. Tran Hung Thai - Principal of the school shared: "We have no other choice but to visit and encourage Lo Thi Phuong's parents, and hope that she will not be lured into doing bad things, violating the law. Authorities at all levels and functional agencies need to soon have solutions to prevent bad guys from taking advantage of kidnapping and enticing minors to leave the area...".
