Nghe An strives to plant over 40,600 hectares of winter crop

(Baonghean) - With active support policies, many localities have encouraged people to promote winter crop production in the direction of commodities. In Quynh Luu and Thanh Chuong districts, farmers have been working hard, not letting the land rest, creating a rich volume of agricultural products.

This year, Mr. Le Xuan Hung in Hamlet 8, Quynh Giang Commune (Quynh Luu) is the leading household in the commune in terms of winter crop area on 2-rice land. With 5 sao of land, after harvesting the summer-autumn rice crop, he proceeded to prepare the land to plant 3 sao of pumpkin, 2 sao of green squash and squash. These days, he is actively working in the fields to take care of, prevent pests and diseases, and kill rats that damage crops.

“In this area, the land is very fertile, so any crop can be grown well. Rice yields 3.5 - 4 quintals per sao; when switching to winter crops, the plants grow quickly, with few pests and diseases, and each sao brings in a profit of 7 million VND. In particular, for many years now, the commune has had support policies in production, so almost all of the family's 5 sao of land have never stopped growing,” Mr. Hung shared.

Implementing the winter crop production plan, Quynh Giang commune restructured 82 hectares of various crops on double-rice land. In particular, the locality built 2 models including: a large-scale field producing green squash and pumpkin on double-rice land with an area of ​​nearly 12 hectares with 120 participating households and a pumpkin production linkage model associated with product consumption. The total support budget for the 2 models is 150 million VND, of which 100 million VND is from the district budget, the rest is from the commune budget.

In addition to the model crops, the locality has directed people to plant more crops with high economic efficiency such as squash, tomatoes, cauliflower, and kohlrabi. In addition to support mechanisms for model implementation, the locality has also actively mobilized cadres, civil servants, party members, and village branches in the area to take the lead in winter crop production. To date, the whole commune has planted about 40/82 hectares of the planned area.

Up to now, 20/33 communes and towns in Quynh Luu are implementing winter crop production, of which 15 communes have registered to grow winter crops with large areas such as Quynh Dien, An Hoa, Quynh Yen, Quynh Hau, Quynh Ngoc, Quynh Giang, Tan Son and communes in the coastal areas. As of September 25, the whole district has planted 1,059/3,810 hectares of winter crop area; of which, corn is 106 hectares, sweet potatoes are 41 hectares, vegetables are 1,059 hectares, the rest are other crops...

In Thanh Chuong district, this winter crop, there is a plan to plant about 5,300 hectares of corn and various vegetables in the direction of comprehensive development in terms of area, productivity and value of goods. To carry out this task, the district and localities have taken many measures, including linking in seed supply, science and technology and product consumption.

This winter crop, Thanh Chuong district has a policy of reducing corn acreage, increasing vegetable growing areas into concentrated areas, applying safe vegetable growing to create large quantities of goods. Implementing this direction, many communes have formed specialized areas such as squash and pumpkin in Thanh Linh, Thanh Lien, Cat Van; beans in Thanh Yen, Thanh Van; corn mixed with pickled cabbage in Thanh Luong... All types of vegetables are also linked, such as Thanh Lam and Thanh Ngoc communes growing biomass corn for the Ha Tinh Dairy Farm; green squash in Thanh Lien and Thanh Linh communes linking with traditional enterprises in Nam Dinh, Vinh City, Do Luong; vegetables and beans have also been contracted by cooperatives to consume products with 80 kindergartens and boarding primary schools in the district and some neighboring districts.

By September 21, the whole province had planted 9,941 hectares of corn/plan 24,500 hectares (reaching 40.57%, of which corn on 2-rice land was 1,482 hectares), 1,137 hectares of peanuts/plan 1,400 hectares (reaching 81.21%), 4,309 hectares of vegetables and beans/plan 12,000 hectares (reaching 35.91%), 387.5 hectares of sweet potatoes/plan 2,750 hectares (reaching 14.09%).
