Nghe An launched a nationwide campaign to do irrigation work in 2024.

The campaign to build on achievements in recent years, continue to launch a movement for the entire population to build on irrigation to raise awareness and form long-term, sustainable habits among the people about irrigation work and sense of responsibility for repairing and renovating irrigation works, intra-field canals, rural traffic, environmental sanitation, dredging, flood prevention, awareness of using water economically, effectively and preventing water pollution.

Along with that, focus on repairing dredging works for irrigation canals, drainage, and clean water works that have been filled up or damaged, prepare the best facilities for the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop production, ensure domestic water supply for people, serve flood control, flood and drought prevention, urban and city drainage to ensure environmental sanitation.

Continue to apply advanced irrigation methods for dry crops such as: drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation... exploiting the maximum advantage of the system of dams in the province to replicate irrigation models for new varieties of oranges, tangerines, passion fruit, grapefruit, sugarcane, tea, pasture grass...

The Provincial People's Committee requested that the irrigation campaign be associated with the continued construction and implementation of the canal consolidation program, the rural traffic program, the field traffic program, and the new rural program for the 2020-2030 period.

According to the Plan, in this year's launch, units and localities will focus on implementing well a number of work contents such as: Dredging irrigation and drainage canals, clearing main drainage axes, dredging and clearing canals, pumping station suction tanks, water intake works, and domestic water supply.

Strengthen and develop small irrigation systems for upland crops and other crops such as digging and building reservoirs, small tanks, wells, developing small pumping networks, using advanced and water-saving irrigation methods, maximizing the advantages of the system of dams in the province to replicate irrigation models for new varieties of oranges, tangerines, passion fruit, grapefruit, sugarcane, tea, animal feed, specialized vegetable cultivation, etc.

For residential areas of cities, towns, and townships, organize dredging, repair, and renovation of damaged and clogged drainage canal systems; assign specific management levels to each locality, assign specialized staff to coordinate with local authorities (wards, communes, blocks, and hamlets) to participate in dredging secondary and tertiary drainage systems and handle flooding.

Inspect routes and points with constructions and systems that cause water flow blockages and affect the drainage system such as fiber optic, telecommunications, and electricity systems to coordinate with all levels and sectors to handle and dismantle them; organize inspections, urge and direct departments, offices, and People's Committees of wards and communes to implement.

Localities and units maintain the movement well throughout the period from October 1 to December 31, 2024, with a simultaneous launch on October 16, 2024.

To effectively implement the Plan, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to assign staff to closely follow the grassroots, guide, inspect, and urge the launching in localities and units. Synthesize advice, report results and propose recommendations to the Provincial People's Committee.

Relevant Departments and branches in the province, according to their functions and tasks, organize to thoroughly disseminate and seriously implement the Directive of the Provincial People's Committee and inspect and direct localities to implement it according to assigned areas.

People's Committees of districts, cities, towns, and Irrigation LLCs shall establish a Steering Committee for the nationwide campaign to mobilize people to do irrigation work right from the beginning of the campaign.

After the launch, the Provincial People's Committee will summarize and award Certificates of Merit to localities, units and individuals with outstanding achievements. Localities, units and individuals who have not performed well will be criticized and considered during the annual emulation ranking.
