Nghe An launches a campaign to encourage all people to practice swimming to prevent drowning
(Baonghean.vn) - The launching ceremony aims to encourage the whole population to actively practice swimming to improve health, stature, physical strength, prevent diseases for children and the community, and gradually reduce drowning accidents.
On the afternoon of June 6, at Boi Son commune (Do Luong), the Department of Culture and Sports coordinated with the People's Committee of Do Luong district to organize a ceremony to launch the 2020 swimming and drowning prevention campaign for the entire population in Nghe An province, in the delta region.

After 1 year of organizing the campaign to encourage the whole population to practice swimming and prevent drowning, the whole province has achieved some remarkable results: Organizing nearly 1,400 direct communication and propaganda sessions; printing 70,000 leaflets, more than 2,000 banners and slogans; organizing more than 200 swimming training classes; building 21 models of "Children in the whole commune know how to swim" and "Students in the whole school know how to swim"; supporting 21 smart swimming pools, bringing the total number of swimming pools to 150 (including 86 fixed swimming pools). According to the report of the Department of Culture and Sports, at this time in 2019, the whole province had 30 children drowning, this year up to now, 17 children have drowned.
Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Nguyen Thanh Huong - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports affirmed that launching the mass swimming practice is an activity to implement the direction of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Provincial People's Committee on preventing and combating injuries to people, especially child drowning.

Nghe An is a province with many rivers, streams, lakes, and dams, which pose many risks of drowning accidents. Through the ceremony, the Organizing Committee promoted the benefits and effects of swimming practice, safety skills in the water environment, and encouraged the entire population to actively practice swimming to improve health, stature, physical strength, prevent diseases for children and the community, and gradually reduce drowning accidents.
At the same time, promote the role and responsibility of agencies, organizations, schools, families and the entire community in drowning prevention.

At the launching ceremony, students enthusiastically participated in learning about knowledge and skills to prevent and combat drowning in children, water familiarization games, swimming methods, safe drowning rescue skills and first aid for drowning victims. On this occasion, instructors and students performed swimming in the swimming pool area.

On this occasion, representatives of 10 districts, cities and towns in the delta region, schools building model models of "Children in the whole commune know how to swim", "Students in the whole school know how to swim" signed a commitment to respond with specific actions to build a safe and healthy environment for children, contributing to improving health, stature, physical strength, minimizing injuries and drowning accidents in children in each locality.

Also at the ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded 30 gifts to disadvantaged students who excelled in their studies; 20 gifts to students with achievements in the swimming and drowning prevention movement and 150 gifts to students who participated in games to learn drowning prevention skills and participated in swimming competitions.
