Nghe An discovered 119 defendants with corruption in 2023

At the November 2023 thematic meeting of the Provincial People's Committee on the morning of November 16, Provincial Inspector Chu The Huyen reported on the results of anti-corruption work in 2023 and the direction and tasks for 2024.

According to Chief Inspector of the province Chu The Huyen, the work of preventing and combating corruption has been focused on and implemented by the provincial People's Committee and all levels and sectors. The solutions to prevent and combat corruption have been implemented seriously and synchronously, along with the dissemination and education of laws on preventing and combating corruption being carried out regularly, contributing to raising the awareness and responsibility of civil servants, public employees and workers.

Authorities at all levels and in all sectors have achieved positive and clear results, detecting and handling many corruption cases through investigation, prosecution and trial. Corruption is handled strictly, with the right people and the right crimes.

The entire Inspection sector has carried out 323 administrative inspections, including 306 planned inspections and 17 unscheduled inspections. Through inspections, conclusions were issued on 226 inspections at 468 units, detecting violations of VND5,747 billion and 101,540 m²land.

After inspection, it is recommended to recover 39,166 billion VND; recommend to reduce the settlement value, reduce capital allocation and other recommendations of 13,161 billion VND and 101,540 m²land; recommend administrative handling of 52 organizations and 273 individuals with violations, discover 1 case and transfer it to the investigation agency.

On May 25, 2023, the Provincial Inspectorate organized a draw to randomly select 20 people to have their assets and income verified in 2023 at 4 units. Currently, the Provincial Inspectorate is implementing the 2023 Asset and Income Verification Plan.

The total number of complaints and denunciations arising during the period was 279 cases. State administrative agencies have resolved 247/279 cases, reaching a rate of 88.5%, the remaining 32 cases are being verified and resolved by departments, branches, sectors, and local authorities at all levels according to regulations. After resolving petitions and denunciations, the files of 3 cases were transferred to the police investigation agency.

During the period, the investigation agencies actively verified and prosecuted many corruption cases. The number of corruption cases discovered during the period was 29 cases/119 defendants, the number of cases decreased compared to the same period last year but the number of defendants increased by 55 defendants.

The damage caused by corruption crimes is more than 7,830 billion VND. Assets recovered are more than 5,647 billion VND, reaching a rate of 72.1%.

According to the Provincial Inspectorate, the development of the market economy has affected a small number of cadres and civil servants who lack training and education, and who, along with their lack of legal knowledge, have taken advantage of loopholes in the law to commit acts of corruption, affecting the reputation of the state apparatus among the people.

The provincial inspectorate also forecasts that the corruption situation in the coming time will continue to be complicated. The situation of officials and civil servants abusing their positions and powers for personal gain, for group interests, and especially petty corruption is creeping into agencies and units, causing public anger and dissatisfaction.
