Patient Ho Thi Xinh (Quynh Thach, Quynh Luu) has been coughing for many years. She often lives alone, has financial difficulties, and has no health insurance, so she is afraid to go to the doctor. The condition lasted for 4 years, when her body lost weight rapidly, from 55kg to 37kg, Ms. Xinh went to the doctor but her condition was already serious.

Recently, patient Xinh was admitted to Nghe An General Hospital for treatment in a state of severe coughing, insomnia, weakness, and exhaustion due to long-term illness. Through examination and paraclinical results, the doctor of the Thoracic Surgery Department diagnosed the patient with collapsed lower and middle lobes of the right lung due to an intermediate bronchus tumor, and was indicated to surgically remove 2 lobes of the lung: the middle and lower lobes of the right lung.

“During the surgery, we found that the middle and lower lobes of the patient’s lungs were collapsed, necrotic, and contained a lot of white pus; the dissection and exposure of the veins and arteries of the two lobes were very difficult due to infection and lymph node invasion, so we used an automatic stapler cutting-splicing tool to clamp and cut the veins and arteries. The bronchus had a hard tumor and pus flowing out, so we had to cut and manually shape the intermediate bronchus, pump and clean it, then close the bronchial apex.

One day after the surgery, the patient was awake and stable. Post-operative endoscopy and X-ray showed that the bronchi were closed and clean, and the lungs were expanding well. After three days, the drainage tube was removed. Now, after nearly a week of surgery, the patient has stopped coughing, eats and sleeps well, is very excited and has been discharged home" - Dr. Ho Thai Phuc, Department of Thoracic Surgery, commented.
