Nghe An issues urgent dispatch to respond to low pressure and floods
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of October 6, the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue issued an urgent dispatch on implementing measures to respond to low pressure and heavy rain.
Accordingly, at 1:00 p.m. on October 6, the center of the low pressure area was at about 11.5-12.5 degrees North latitude; 112.5-113.5 degrees East longitude, about 160 km West-Northwest of Song Tu Tay Island. It is forecasted that within 24 hours, the low pressure area will move mainly in a westerly direction, traveling about 15 km per hour and is likely to strengthen into a tropical depression.

From the night of October 6 to 11, the Central provinces are likely to have heavy to very heavy rain with total rainfall of 300-500mm/period. After October 11, heavy rain in the Central provinces will continue to develop complicatedly and may last longer.
From October 7-11, rivers from Nghe An to Binh Thuan experienced a flood, with flood amplitudes in the upstream from 4-9m and downstream from 1.5-5m.
To proactively respond to the low pressure area that is likely to strengthen into a tropical depression and especially the situation of heavy rain and floods, the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Nghe An province requests the Chairman and Head of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of districts, cities and towns; the Provincial Military Command; the Provincial Border Guard Command; the Departments of: Transport, Natural Resources and Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Tourism, Information and Communications; the Chairman of the Board of Members, Directors of Irrigation and Hydropower Companies in the province; Nghe An Radio and Television Station, Nghe An Newspaper, Ben Thuy Coastal Information Station and related units to implement the following contents:
Strictly implement the content of Official Dispatch No. 20/CD-TW dated October 6, 2020 of the Standing Office of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control - Office of the National Committee for Incident Response, Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue.
Closely monitor the development of the low pressure area, notify owners of vehicles, captains of ships and boats operating at sea of the location, direction of movement and development of the low pressure area to proactively avoid, escape or not move into the dangerous area. Dangerous areas due to low pressure in the East Sea in the next 24 hours (strong winds level 6, gusts level 8 or higher) from latitude 12-15 degrees North, from 109.5-115.0 degrees East.

Rescue agencies (Provincial Border Guard Command, Provincial Military Command...) are ready with forces and means to promptly organize rescue when requested.
Nghe An Newspaper, Provincial Radio and Television Station, Ben Thuy Coastal Information Station and other mass media increase broadcasting time, report on developments in low pressure areas and heavy rain so that authorities at all levels and people know and proactively take precautions.
Organize the on-duty team seriously and regularly report to the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control.
