Nghe An: Seafood output in 6 months reached over 100 thousand tons

(Baonghean.vn) - Despite record oil prices and a high rate of ships staying ashore... Nghe An's seafood output in the first 6 months of the year was approximately 101 thousand tons, reaching 55% of the yearly plan.

According to the reflection of fishermen in Nghe An, they have never faced such difficulties as after the latest increase in oil prices, up to nearly 30,000 VND/liter, causing the cost of each sea trip to increase by tens of millions of VND, even for large-capacity boats, offshore fishing costs increased by hundreds of millions of VND. However, the catch still exceeded the same period last year.

According to the Department of Fisheries, in the first 6 months of 2022, the total outputfishingNghe An's estimated output reached 104,180 tons, with an estimated value of over VND 2,250 billion. Of which, marine exploitation reached nearly 101 thousand tons, equal to 55% of the annual plan, equal to 105.36% over the same period last year; inland exploitation reached 3,344 tons, equal to 67% of the annual plan, equal to 104.14% over the same period last year.

However, in the first months of 2022, gasoline prices continued to increase, with oil prices increasing by about 60% compared to the end of 2021, causing other services to increase as well; the average cost of each sea trip increased by 40-60 million VND compared to 2021.

In addition, fishing grounds are narrowing; aquatic resources are seriously declining; the Covid-19 pandemic continues to develop complicatedly, aquatic product distribution channels are affected; prices of exploited aquatic products do not increase... so the average income of seafood exploitation workers has decreased to 1-2 million VND/person/month. This has led to about 30-40% of fishing boats being stuck on shore, some fishermen have had to accept selling their fishing boats, and fishermen's lives have encountered many difficulties.
