In the last days of the year, Kim Phuc and Kim Chi flower and ornamental plant villages (Nghi An commune, Vinh city) are bustling and busy when trucks carrying flowers and ornamental plants from all over the world: Da Lat, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Binh Dinh... bring in goods and trucks carrying flowers from the village to import and sell retail at markets.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan, owner of a garden specializing in ornamental plants and flowers in Kim Phuc hamlet (Nghi An), said: “Since the end of November, gardeners have imported flowers and ornamental plants to serve Tet. Our garden mainly sells roses from Da Lat and Hanoi. After being imported, the branches and leaves are pruned, potted, and cared for, then exported to agents and retailers in the garden. On average, our facility exports 100-150 pots of roses of all kinds to the market each day.”

Gardeners at theflower and ornamental plant villageOn this occasion, in addition to importing typical flowers for Tet such as: peony, primrose, azalea, poinsettia..., we are also busier with the sale of large ornamental plants for agencies, units, and family garden projects at the end of the year.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen, an agricultural extension officer of Nghi An commune, said: “The whole commune has 3 flower and ornamental plant craft villages with more than 600 workers in the profession. Nghi An has 3 famous flower and ornamental plant growing villages with 600 workers in the profession, with an annual revenue of 80 billion VND and an average income of 60 million VND/person/year. The peak season for flower and ornamental plant business falls in the last 3 months of the year. The area for growing flowers is not large, gardeners mainly import them from other places, prune and care for the plants, make them beautiful, and then sell them to the market.”

At this time, flower and ornamental plant kiosks along Lenin Avenue and Highway 46 from Vinh to Cua Lo are also bustling with buyers and sellers. This year,flower and ornamental plant market for Tetquite diverse, rich in variety, reasonable prices, so despite the impact of the Covid19 epidemic, purchasing power has not decreased much compared to previous years. Popular flowers such as: azaleas, primroses, daffodils, poinsettias, chrysanthemums... still maintain prices of about 100,000-300,000 VND/pot. Cymbidiums and phalaenopsis orchids alone increased by about 5%, priced from 900,000 VND to several million VND/pot, depending on the number of branches.

Mr. Tran Van Phong, owner of a flower and ornamental plant dealer along Highway 46, Vinh - Cua Lo section, said: "Since the end of the 10th lunar month, we have increased the amount of imported goods by 3 times compared to normal days. On average, there are 4 shipments per week with about 3,000 plants. In particular, we focus on flowers that are typical for Tet such as: Phalaenopsis orchids, camellias, azaleas, kumquats for tables..., along with feng shui flowers that have been popular in recent years such as the money tree, money tree tower... The prices of flowers this year are the same as last year, so despite the impact of the Covid 19 epidemic, purchasing power has not decreased."
