Nghe An strengthens solutions to prevent African swine fever
(Baonghean.vn) - In the face of the complicated and spreading situation of African Swine Fever in the province, on March 16, the Provincial People's Committee issued a telegram requesting districts, cities and towns to strengthen the synchronous implementation of prevention solutions.
According to the telegram, the Provincial People's Committee requested districts, cities and towns of Nghe An province to perform the following tasks:
- Seriously implement Directive No. 04/CT-TTg, dated February 20, 2019 of the Prime Minister on synchronously implementing urgent solutions to control African Swine Fever, Decision No. 5817/QD-UBND dated December 28, 2018 of the People's Committee of Nghe An province, on promulgating the Action Plan for emergency response to African Swine Fever in Nghe An province.
-Establish a Steering Committee for African Swine Fever prevention and control at district and commune levels.
- Develop a response scenario for African Swine Fever, specifically situations where no outbreak has occurred in the area, outbreaks detected on a small scale, and outbreaks on a large scale; assign specific responsibilities to the party secretary, hamlet chief, relevant departments and branches, and members of the anti-epidemic steering committee.
- Organize an expanded conference to inform about the epidemic situation and deploy urgent solutions to prevent and control African Swine Fever.
- Disburse reserve funds to be proactive in epidemic prevention and control: funds for interdisciplinary delegation activities, epidemic control checkpoints, purchase of supplies, labor protection, engine sprayers, chemicals, lime powder, etc., funds to support epidemic prevention and control forces.
- Direct the People's Committees of communes, breeders, slaughterhouses, pig and pig product traders to buy lime powder and chemicals to disinfect and completely destroy the source of disease, with the motto of prevention from households and farms; strictly apply biosafety solutions in animal husbandry, veterinary hygiene, and food safety in slaughtering and trading.
-Review and inspect animal slaughterhouses, especially small-scale slaughterhouses; resolutely not allow slaughtering activities if they do not meet veterinary hygiene requirements.

- Increase human resources for slaughter control to ensure that animals brought for slaughter are healthy. Prohibit the sale of pork on the street and on sidewalks. Strengthen clinical surveillance in areas around outbreaks and at-risk areas to detect outbreaks early and handle outbreaks quickly.
In addition, the People's Committees of districts, cities and towns need to continuously propagate on district and commune information channels about the dangers of African Swine Fever and disease prevention and control measures so that people voluntarily and effectively implement the 5 no's.“Do not hide the epidemic; Do not buy, sell, or transport sick or dead pigs; Do not slaughter or consume sick or dead pigs; Do not throw pig carcasses into the environment; Do not use unheated leftover food”.
At the same time, promote the solutions that the province, district and commune have implemented to prevent and control African swine fever so that people do not turn their backs on pig products.

As of March 16, in Nghe An, there were 2 outbreaks of African swine fever in Quynh My commune (Quynh Luu), in hamlet 7 and hamlet 8. In particular, hamlet 7 was discovered on March 12 when a positive result was found in a dead pig at Mr. Hoang Van Lan's family. At 9:00 a.m. on March 16, the Regional Veterinary Agency III had the official result of the test sample being positive for African swine fever at the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy in hamlet 8, Quynh My commune, who died of the disease.
