Nghe An province has 3,964 fishing boats, catching about 110 tons of various types of seafood each year. However, due to the number of boats with a capacity of less than 20 CV accounting for nearly 1,600 fishing boats operating in coastal areas, the amount of trash fish is high, with low economic value (mainly in Dien Chau and Nghi Loc districts).
In order to increase the output of offshore seafood exploitation, reduce nearshore and trash fish, encourage offshore fishing in the form of production teams, exploit objects with high economic value, good consumption market... Nghe An aims to reduce the total number of boats to 3,870 by 2020, of which the number of high-capacity boats, exploiting offshore areas will increase to 1,600. Of which, the largest fleet is concentrated in Quynh Luu district, Hoang Mai town.
By 2020, seafood output in Nghe An is estimated to reach 120,000 tons, with export value reaching 50 million USD.
In addition to the government's support policies, in Nghe An, many fishermen have mobilized their own capital to build large boats with large engines to go offshore. The large-capacity fleet, in addition to increasing the value of fishing and protecting marine resources, also contributes actively to the work of protecting the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
