(Baonghean.vn) - After more than a week of returning to shore to avoid storms and low pressure, hundreds of fishing boats of Nghe An fishermen still cannot go out to sea due to the appearance of a new storm. This is also the reason why seafood prices have increased sharply, including dried and fresh seafood.

Due to the influence of the monsoon and the circulation after storm No. 5, from October 25 to 31, hundreds of offshore fishing boats in Quynh Luu and Hoang Mai town had to return to shore to anchor and take shelter. As of this morning, November 3, all of the above fishing boats were still unable to go to sea because a new storm was forming at sea.

Because of not being able to go out to sea to fish, for more than a week now, the supply of fresh seafood to the market has been scarce and prices have suddenly increased sharply by 20-30%. According to seafood traders in Quynh Luu, the prices of key products such as mantis shrimp, crab, sea snails... have increased compared to before. Specifically, type 1 crab is currently priced at 550,000 - 600,000 VND/kg (an increase of 200,000 VND/kg); type 1 mantis shrimp is priced at 350,000 VND/kg (an increase of 50,000 - 100,000 VND/kg).

In addition to the sharp increase in fresh seafood prices, dried seafood is also scarce due to lack of supply. Accordingly, dried squid of 6-7 pieces/kg costs 1.6-1.7 million (up 200,000 VND/kg); dried anchovies are currently priced at 350,000 VND/kg (up 100,000 VND/kg), dried mackerel has also increased by 30%...

Ms. Ho Thi Thuy - a seafood trader in Hoang Mai town said that recently, dried seafood products of all kinds such as dried hairtail fish for export, anchovies, squid... have been favored by the market and exported to other countries. In the past, due to the lack of this source of goods, prices have increased sharply. Only when the boats go out to sea again will prices stabilize.

Because the ship has been docked for more than a week, most of the seafood in the markets today is mainly frozen. Photo: Viet Hung

To serve the needs of consumers, frozen seafood such as mackerel, silver carp, squid... are also transported by traders to the market for sale and the price also increases according to each type. Although the price increases compared to normal days, according to many consumers, this is a very necessary food in daily meals so people do not hesitate to buy.
