(Baonghean.vn) - As the Lunar New Year of Canh Ty - 2020 is approaching, everywhere is bustling with excitement to welcome Spring, while people in fishing villages are still working hard to make a living. It seems that for the people here, Tet comes late and leaves early.

The poor fishing village on Cua Tien River in Block 1, Yen Giang, Vinh Tan Ward, Vinh City has 5 households, all of whom are from Quang Trach (Quang Binh) who drifted here more than 40 years ago. Of the 5 households, 4 live in temporary houses, and 1 lives in a floating house made of plastic barrels covered with corrugated iron.
Mr. Hoang Vung (42 years old), a resident in the village, said that his family has 5 children, the 3 older children have dropped out of school to work for hire. This year, his family is happier, because they have just built a chicken coop with an area of 5 - 6 m2.2, raising nearly 20 chickens of various kinds, for meat and eggs. It seems that his chicken coop is one of the most "modern constructions" in the neighborhood. "Tet here is just like any other day, just before Tet, we buy a few things and only take the first day off, the next day we go back to work" - Mr. Vung shared.
In the days leading up to Tet, people in the fishing village still work as usual (go fishing, sell fish, receive fish to scale, debone and earn wages...). They work hard all year round but do not have much left, so they do not buy much on Tet. In the photo: People in the fishing village are washing squid for hire on the last day of the year.
The space for children in poor fishing villages to play on Tet holiday is limited to fishing boats, temporary houses with torn nets, or at the foot of uneven stairs filled with bamboo poles and dirty trash...
While people everywhere are preparing for a thoughtful Tet, people in Ha Long fishing village, Thanh Ha commune, Thanh Chuong district are still working hard to earn a living by catching shrimp and fish on Lam river or working hard by grilling fish on the side of National Highway 46.
Van Tai fishing village, Vo Liet commune, Thanh Chuong district has 72 households, of which about 20 households are living on boats. In recent years, thanks to labor export, the appearance of the fishing village has changed somewhat. People have built a cultural house, a sports field, and concreted village roads. Their material and spiritual life has improved. In the photo: The road to Van Tai fishing village is decorated more beautifully to welcome Spring.
The households of Van Tai fishing village hope for a prosperous new year.
  • In recent years, some resettlement projects for people in fishing villages on the Lam River have "failed halfway", but with the desire to change their lives, to escape the drifting life, they always hope to one day live in a new land. Ms. Nguyen Thi Suu in Ha Long fishing village said that her family is one of the households in the fishing village that had to rent a house to live in because the boat was broken. This Tet, the greatest joy of her family is that instead of celebrating Tet on the river, they can live in a sturdy house, even though it is a rented house.
