Nghe An attends the 'Meeting Japan 2023' Conference

(Baonghean.vn)- On the morning of November 2, the "Meeting Japan" Conference took place in Hanoi.

Attending on the Japanese side were the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam, and the Japan External Trade Organization in Vietnam.

On the Vietnamese side, there were representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 42 provinces and cities.

On the side of Nghe An province, there were comrade Bui Dinh Long - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of leaders of departments and branches: Provincial People's Committee Office, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Industry and Trade and the Provincial Center for Investment Promotion, Trade and Tourism and enterprises operating in industrial park infrastructure including: VSIP Nghe An, WHA Nghe An, Hoang Thinh Dat.

The conference attracted the participation of nearly 900 Vietnamese and Japanese business delegates.

The “Meeting Japan” conference took place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations. Over the past 50 years, the two countries have built a relationship through many notable milestones such as issuing the “Joint Statement on Vietnam-Japan Strategic Partnership” (2009), upgrading to “Extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia” (2014), identifying each other as “Long-term, stable and trustworthy partners” (2022) and currently in the best period ever.

The conference aims to connect localities nationwide with Japanese partners, creating conditions and opportunities for localities to promote their potential, strengths and establish relationships with Japanese representative agencies, Japanese localities, organizations, associations, and Japanese enterprises in Vietnam as well as in Japan, contributing practically to supporting localities to proactively and actively integrate deeply and comprehensively into the international community.

Over the years, the cooperation between the two countries has achieved remarkable results, in which cooperation in economic development is the highlight. Many localities in Vietnam and Japan have become important partners of each other.

For Nghe An, Japan is the leading strategic partner in the current period and vision 2030 - 2045.

Nghe An province and Gifu province, Japan established friendly relations in November 2015.

Currently, Nghe An province has approved investment policies/issued investment registration certificates for 15 projects of Japanese investors with a total registered capital of 189.33 million USD.

Japanese FDI investment projects in Nghe An province in recent times have had positive impacts on the province's socio-economic development, contributing to the state budget, creating jobs for local workers, and promoting exports.

However, the registered capital of investment projects of Japanese enterprises is still quite modest, in some fields of manufacturing, garment, mineral exploitation and processing, automobile component manufacturing, seafood processing; there are no large projects with driving force, projects that create high added value, create breakthroughs and have widespread influence.

Up to now, Japan has funded Nghe An 44 programs and projects, with a total of more than 5,000 billion VND (equivalent to 217.5 million USD), including some typical projects such as: Project to Restore and Upgrade the Northern Nghe An Irrigation System... During that process, agricultural cooperation between Nghe An province and JICA is considered a model for JICA's cooperation with localities in Vietnam. JICA's support for Nghe An province through ODA projects has made an important contribution to the socio-economic development and improvement of infrastructure in Nghe An.

Export turnover from Nghe An to Japan in 2022 reached 72 million USD and in the first 6 months of 2023 reached 53.53 million USD. Main export items include: Textiles and garments; wood pellets; seafood; all kinds of steel; all kinds of footwear...

Import turnover from Japan in 2022 reached 34.48 million USD and in the first 6 months of 2023 reached 39.9 million USD, the main imported items include: textile and garment raw materials, leather, shoes, steel of all kinds, seafood, production raw materials...

In 2022 and the first 6 months of 2023, Nghe An had 14,060 workers going abroad to work under contracts in Japan through businesses with the function of sending people to work abroad under contracts.
