Rau lot is a wild vegetable that grows along brackish water rivers, shrimp ponds, salt fields, and is harvested from January to February of the lunar calendar. Because it grows wild, the yield of this vegetable is low, the economic efficiency is not high, and it is gradually becoming scarce. From there, some people in Quynh Luu district, Hoang Mai town have had the idea of domesticating this wild vegetable and planting it intensively on saline soil. Instead of only being harvested in the spring, when the hot weather makes the plant barren and old like wild jujube, after being domesticated, the jujube plant can be harvested all year round (about 10 months). Each crop is 3-5 days apart, each day harvests 3-5 quintals. Photo: Thanh Phuc |
