Nghe An implements ethnic policies well
(Baonghean.vn) - According to Decree No. 05/2011/ND-CP of the Government, there are currently 54 projects and policies still in effect, directly supporting the socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas. In Nghe An, the good implementation of ethnic policies has created a driving force to help mountainous districts achieve many improvements in the past year.

On the afternoon of January 8, the Provincial People's Committee held a conference to review ethnic work and ethnic policies in 2019 and deploy tasks for 2020. In 2019, along with advising on policies and plans for the Provincial People's Committee and the Ethnic Committee, the Provincial Ethnic Committee coordinated with sectors and district People's Committees to effectively implement ethnic programs and policies. Thanks to that, the socio-economic situation in ethnic and mountainous areas has had remarkable changes.
Specifically, the economy shifted in the right direction and had good growth; the average income per capita in ethnic minority areas reached 29.09 million VND; the poverty rate decreased by an average of 3-4%.
CInfrastructure serving socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security has been invested in and built, contributing to solving difficulties in transportation, production, circulation of goods, domestic water, and electricity.

As of December 31, 2019, in the ethnic minority area of Nghe An, 77/203 communes, equivalent to 37.9%, met new rural standards, including 04 disadvantaged communes in district 30a meeting new rural standards; 97 villages and hamlets met new rural standards and 01 district-level unit completed the task of building new rural areas; 100% of communes have national grid electricity to the commune center.
The grassroots political system is increasingly consolidated and strengthened; national defense and security are also consolidated and maintained, creating favorable conditions for socio-economic development and stabilizing the lives of people of all ethnic groups.

In addition to the achieved results, Comrade Luong Thanh Hai, Head of the Provincial Ethnic Minorities Committee, also pointed out the remaining difficulties in implementing policies for ethnic minorities in mountainous areas. In particular, the socio-economic development situation in this area still faces many shortcomings when, among the 27 main socio-economic and environmental targets by 2020 stated in the Resolution Letter at the 2nd Congress of Ethnic Minorities in 2014, 20 targets are forecast to be achieved and exceeded, 7 targets are difficult to achieve.
After implementing Resolution No. 88/2019/QH14 dated November 18, 2019 of the National Assembly approving the Master Plan for Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period", Comrade Luong Thanh Hai emphasized, this is the driving force to promote all resources, exploit potentials and advantages to develop ethnic minority and mountainous areas and is also considered a key task of ethnic work in 2020.

Acknowledging the achievements of ethnic minority work in mountainous areas in the past year, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long suggested continuing to well implement the 11 key tasks and 9 solutions set out in 2020. Thereby, improving the effectiveness of implementing socio-economic development goals, targets and tasks commensurate with the potential and strengths of the region. At the same time, it is necessary to make good use of programs and projects to attract investment in mountainous areas to practically support people to have sustainable livelihoods, boldly apply science and technology, change crop structure, and improve the quality of life.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Nghe An province awarded the title of Provincial Emulation Fighter for the period 2016 - 2018 to the Head of the Propaganda - Area Department, Provincial Ethnic Committee. At the same time, awarded Certificates of Merit to 3 individuals and 1 collective of the Provincial Ethnic Committee for their outstanding achievements in implementing ethnic policies.
