On the afternoon of December 16, the Steering Committee for Crime Prevention, Social Evils Prevention and Building a Movement for the Whole People to Protect National Security of the province held a summary of the work in 2019 and deployed tasks for 2020.

Detected and arrested 1,815 drug criminals

In 2019, the work of preventing and combating crimes, social evils and building a movement to protect national security in the province achieved many remarkable results. Functional branches, organizations, and members of the Steering Committee from the province to the local level always uphold their roles and responsibilities in implementing the task of maintaining security and order associated with carrying out political tasks. The peak periods of fighting and suppressing crimes, especially drug-related, economic, criminal, and social evil crimes, achieved high results.

The authorities investigated and discovered 804/935 cases of social order violations, arrested and handled 1,282 subjects, reaching a rate of 86%. Discovered and arrested 1,501 cases, 1,815 subjects for drug crimes; 6,906 cases, 7,324 subjects for crimes and violations of the law on economic management order, positions and environment; 1,119 cases, 4,449 subjects for gambling; 43 cases, 110 subjects for prostitution.

Seized 93.7 kg of heroin; 72.2 kg of synthetic drugs, 38,702 synthetic drug pills; 780.6 kg of crystal meth; 93.8 grams of marijuana; 2.8 kg of opium; 8.5 tons of firecrackers; 273.8 m3 and 3 tons of various types of wood; money and other goods and assets with a total value of more than 40 billion VND.

In 2019, 16 typical models were built and replicated in 180 residential areas, communes, wards, towns, agencies, businesses, and schools. In particular, there were 2 models of "Coordination regulations between the police, priests, and parish pastoral councils in propaganda, dissemination of legal education, and the fight against crime and social evils" in Thanh Chuong district and the model "Prevention and combat of illegal immigration" in Tuong Duong district were commended and replicated nationwide by the Ministry of Public Security.

Along with that, continue to improve the effectiveness of drug addiction treatment and post-treatment management. Drug addiction treatment facilities have organized drug addiction treatment for 2,606 students, of which in 2018, 1,424 students were transferred, 1,182 new students were admitted, and 1,094 students were reintegrated into the community.

Strengthen prevention and fight

At the conference, representatives of departments and branches analyzed and frankly pointed out a number of causes leading to existing limitations, and at the same time proposed and agreed on a number of key solutions in crime prevention, social evils and building a movement for the whole people to protect national security in 2020.

Those results contributed to maintaining security and order, preventing complicated incidents; crime decreased...

However, the crime situation is still complicated, so the Steering Committee from the province to the grassroots level needs to direct all levels, sectors and localities to continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the policies of the Party, State, Ministry of Public Security and Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Committee on building a movement for the whole people to protect national security.

Strengthen information, propaganda and education work on the tasks of maintaining political security and social order and safety; strengthen crime prevention and suppression to ensure political security and social order and safety, in the immediate future before, during and after the Lunar New Year, as well as in the long term.
