Nghe An continues to fight strongly against drug crimes and human trafficking

On the afternoon of December 7, the Provincial People's Committee held a conference to review and evaluate the situation and results of the work of the Steering Committee for Crime Prevention and Control, Social Evils and Building a Movement for the Whole People to Protect National Security in the province in 2020, and deploy tasks for 2021.

Arrested 2,016 drug criminals

In 2020, in the whole country in general and Nghe An province in particular, many major political and social events took place. The security and order situation in some areas is still complicated. In that situation, the sectors that are members of the Steering Committee for Crime Prevention, Social Affairs and Constructionmass movement to protect national securityThe province has proactively and actively advised the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to comprehensively, resolutely and effectively direct the implementation of all aspects of work, successfully completing the set goals, requirements, tasks and work programs, contributing to maintaining security and order, and serving well the socio-economic development tasks of the province.

The authorities have investigated and solved 947 cases of violating social order, arrested and prosecuted 1,395 subjects, recovered money and assets with a total value of more than 8.5 billion VND and returned them to the people.

Detected and arrested 1,504 cases, 2,016 subjects illegally buying, storing, and transporting substancesdrug(of which, the police force arrested 1,460 cases, 1,966 subjects; the border guards arrested 40 cases, 45 subjects; the customs discovered and arrested 4 cases, 5 subjects), confiscating 54.6 kg of heroin, 62.2 kg and 298,610 MTTH pills, 206.4 kg of crystal meth, 6.8 kg of marijuana, 69.8 kg of opium, 76.1 kg of opium poppy fruit and plants (total amount of drugs seized was nearly 506 kg). Of which, 55 major drug cases were broken.

Detected, prosecuted, and investigated 7 cases, 18 defendants for crimes related to positions and corruption; 166 cases, 216 defendants for economic crimes; 19 cases, 21 defendants for environmental crimes (of which, continued to strongly fight against illegal sand and gravel mining on rivers, prosecuted 2 cases, 2 defendants for the crime of "Violating regulations on resource exploitation").

Continue to build, replicate and consolidate outstanding and typical models in the movement of the whole people protecting national security. As of the end of November 2020, the province has 35 types of advanced models and typical examples in the movement of the whole people protecting national security deployed in 1,164 residential areas, communes, wards, towns, agencies, enterprises and schools.

Along with that, continue to improve the effectiveness of drug addiction treatment and post-treatment management. Drug addiction treatment centers in the province are currently organizing management and treatment for 1,474 students; of which, compulsory treatment is for 1,099 students (reaching 122% of the target), voluntary treatment is for 375 students; drug addiction treatment is organized at home and in the community for 680 people; vocational training and transfer of skills to 912 students.

Focus on reviewing and fighting fiercely

Based on the analysis and frank identification of some of the causes leading to existing limitations, representatives of the Steering Committee members focused on discussing and reaching consensus on some key solutions in the work of preventing and combating crimes, social evils and building the movement of All People Protecting National Security in 2021.

Speaking at the conference, comrade Le Hong Vinh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee acknowledged the achieved results, especially the direction and close and effective coordination of all levels, sectors, organizations and localities in 2020. Those results contributed to maintaining security and order, reducing crime, and preventing complicated incidents.

However, the crime situation is still complicated, so in the coming time, the Steering Committee from the province to the grassroots level needs to proactively grasp and forecast the situation to advise the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to issue specific action programs.

Strengthen information, propaganda and education work on the task of preservingsecuritypolitics, social order and safety, focusing on the grassroots; strengthening prevention and fighting against crime to ensure political security, social order and safety, avoiding passivity and surprise, especially on the occasion of the 13th National Party Congress, before, during and after Tet as well as in the long term.
