(Baonghean.vn) -As of September 2017, the People's Court and the People's Procuracy of Nghe An province had organized 110 trial review sessions.

This solution plays a crucial role in bringing about positive changes in the quality of litigation at trials, aiming to improve the effectiveness of resolving criminal cases in general.

Mr. Ho Dinh Trung, Chief Justice of the People's Court of Nghe An province, stated: During trials, the panel of judges does not limit the time for argumentation but directs the arguments to ensure that all parties properly address issues related to the resolution of the cases, especially ensuring the equal rights of the defendant, defense counsel, and other participants in the proceedings in presenting evidence and requesting democratic debate before the court sessions. The court's judgment is based primarily on the results of the arguments presented at the trial and on the basis of a comprehensive and objective review of the evidence in the case.

In 2017, the provincial people's court chose to conduct trial review sessions as a breakthrough solution to improve the quality of trials and organized 110 such sessions.

As a result, the number of overturned or amended judgments decreased. Specifically, in 2017, the number of judgments overturned through appellate and cassation procedures by the two-level People's Courts was 18, and the number of cases significantly amended was 30 out of 8,853 cases, accounting for 0.55% (lower than the target set by Resolution No. 111/2015/QH13 of the National Assembly, which stipulated that the number of overturned or amended judgments should not exceed 1.5%).

To improve the quality of trial review sessions, the Provincial People's Court and the Provincial People's Procuracy have installed online surveillance camera systems at the trials; all 21 district-level units of the two branches have also signed cooperation agreements on organizing trial review sessions at the local level.
