Nghe An organizes rally in response to World Tuberculosis Day
(Baonghean.vn) - World Tuberculosis Day is held annually to widely disseminate, increase knowledge and call for stronger participation of local authorities, departments, sectors, unions, social organizations and people in tuberculosis prevention and control.
On the afternoon of March 23, in Muong Xen town (Ky Son), Nghe An Lung Hospital coordinated with Ky Son District Medical Center and the Center for Supporting Community Development Initiatives (Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations) to organize a rally in response to World Tuberculosis Day (March 24).
Attending the ceremony were representatives of the Central Hospital 71, Ky Son district, the Department of Health of Xieng Khouang province (Laos) and Noong Het and Muong Kham districts of Xieng Khouang province.

142 years ago, on March 24, 1882, Dr. Robert Koch discovered tuberculosis bacteria and the World Health Organization (WHO) decided to make March 24 every year World Tuberculosis Day.
Vietnam is still a country with a high burden of tuberculosis, ranking 11th among 30 countries with the highest number of tuberculosis patients globally; and also ranking 11th among 30 countries with the highest burden of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis in the world.

World Tuberculosis Day is held on March 24 every year to widely disseminate, increase knowledge and call for stronger participation of local authorities, departments, unions, social organizations and people in tuberculosis prevention and control.
In Nghe An, the tuberculosis situation in recent years has tended to decrease by about 5-8%/year. The estimated new incidence rate is about 50 people/100,000 people, lower than the national average rate (about 170 people/100,000 people). Every year, the whole province admits nearly 2,000 tuberculosis patients of all types. However, according to estimates from the National Tuberculosis Control Program, 40% of tuberculosis patients in the community have not been detected.

Therefore, to effectively implement tuberculosis prevention and control work in the coming time, the province continues to strengthen the detection of tuberculosis, latent tuberculosis and respiratory diseases in the community through screening campaigns; strengthen communication work on tuberculosis so that everyone knows and understands about tuberculosis.
In addition, apply new technologies, new drugs, new regimens in diagnosing and treating tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis; effectively utilize funding resources from the Central Lung Hospital, the national tuberculosis control program, other programs, projects and social organizations as well as local funding sources in tuberculosis prevention and control activities.

At the rally, the representative of Nghe An Lung Hospital called on everyone to enthusiastically respond to World Tuberculosis Day on March 24 and send text messages to support the "Fund to support patients to defeat tuberculosis - PASTB" (text: TB to 1402).

On this occasion, the North Central Region Tuberculosis Control Program Coordination Board and Nghe An Lung Hospital presented certificates of merit to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in tuberculosis prevention and control in 2023./.
