Nghe An piloted STEM program in education

(Baonghean.vn) - On August 19 and 20, Thanh Chuong District People's Committee coordinated with the STEM alliance in Hanoi to organize STEM training for 360 core teachers and the Board of Directors of 88 schools at 3 levels in the district.

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM education essentially equips learners with the necessary knowledge and skills related to the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. These knowledge and skills (called STEM skills) must be integrated, interwoven and complement each other to help students not only understand the principles but also be able to apply them to practice and create products in daily life.

From there, creativity is promoted, theory is linked with practice, overcoming the academic theory of Vietnamese education, towards the 4.0 technology revolution. The entire training program is directly delivered by leading professors and doctors and educational science experts.

Along with organizing training for teachers, in order to implement the program in time for the new school year, the People's Committee of Thanh Chuong district has also directed the construction of a system of supporting facilities. Accordingly, each high school will initially choose a room to set up a STEM practice room (Lab room). For primary and secondary schools, each professional cluster will choose a unit that ensures facilities to set up a common practice room for both levels.

Minimum equipment for each lab includes: 5 robots. Encourage schools to equip their own labs to soon bring STEM education into schools. Contact the STEM Alliance to order necessary equipment for STEM teaching. Move towards each school having a STEM practice room.

After a period of implementation, STEM clubs will be established, STEM festivals will be organized, and STEM education will be introduced into mass teaching in all schools.

According to the program organizers and the STEM Alliance, Thanh Chuong is the first district in Nghe An to implement learning and applying this program.
