Nghe An: Growing eggplant covered with plastic earns hundreds of millions of VND/ha

(Baonghean.vn) - Farmers in Chi Khe commune, Con Cuong district are harvesting eggplant. By using the method of planting with plastic cover and taking care of it according to the right technical process, eggplant yields an average of 8 tons/sao, earning 40 million VND/sao/crop.

Families help each other pick eggplants to supply traders in time.

Chi Khe Commune, Con Cuong District currently has 15 hectares of eggplant, concentrated in Tien Thanh and Quyet Tien villages. Of which, more than 8 hectares in Tien Thanh village are grown using the plastic covering method.

According to local households, although the investment cost of growing eggplant using plastic covering method is higher than the normal method, the outstanding advantage is that it maintains soil moisture so there is no need to water, no weeds, high resistance to pests and diseases, so the eggplant gives higher yield and better quality fruit than the normal method.

Ms. Tran Thi Xanh's family's eggplant garden brings in over 70 million VND in income.

The family of Ms. Tran Thi Xanh, Tien Thanh village, Chi Khe commune, grows 2.1 sao of eggplant. She invested nearly 500 thousand VND to buy plastic cover, plus fertilizer, seeds... the total cost is nearly 2 million VND.

With this method of planting with plastic cover, her family does not have to spend much time taking care of it. Eggplants are harvested in a 6-month cycle, 4-5 times a month. With an average selling price of 5,000 VND/kg, her family earns over 70 million VND/crop with this eggplant area.

With the method of planting covered with plastic, the eggplant grows well and bears many fruits.

On average, each sao of eggplant grown using the conventional method yields 4 - 5 tons/sao. Now, growing using the plastic covering method yields nearly double the yield, from 7-8 tons/sao. After deducting costs, each sao still brings in an income of nearly 40 million VND.

Eggplants are purchased by local and neighboring traders right at the field, so people do not have to worry about the output of the product.
