(Baonghean.vn) - To address the European Commission's warning against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, on the morning of May 2, the Department of Fisheries coordinated with coastal communes and wards of Hoang Mai town and Quynh Luu district to organize a training course to disseminate the 2017 Fisheries Law and some other important contents.

Attending the training course were local leaders and more than 200 fishermen from coastal communes and wards of Hoang Mai Town and Quynh Luu District.

During the 1-day period, fishermen heard about some new points surrounding the 2017 Fisheries Law, the contents of Directive 45 and Directive 689 of the Prime Minister on some urgent tasks and solutions to overcome the European Commission's warning on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing; at the same time, fishermen were instructed to keep a fishing logbook.

In addition, fishermen were also informed of Decree No. 17/2018/ND-CP dated February 2, 2018 of the Government amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree No. 67/2014/ND-CP dated July 7, 2014 on a number of fisheries development policies.

In particular, the support level for newly built steel-hulled fishing vessels and logistics service vessels with a total main engine capacity from 800CV to under 1,000CV, the ship owner is supported with 35% of the investment value for new construction but not exceeding 6.7 billion VND/ship. For fishing vessels with a total main engine capacity from 1,000CV or more, the ship owner is supported with 35% of the investment value for new construction but not exceeding 8 billion VND/ship. For newly built composite-hulled fishing vessels and logistics service vessels with a capacity from 800CV or more, the ship owner is supported with 35% of the investment value for new construction but not exceeding 6.7 billion VND/ship...

For offshore fishing vessels, fishermen must comply with the law, fish legally and responsibly. Otherwise, the consequences will be that illegal fishing vessels will be confiscated and destroyed by other countries, fishermen will be fined and face imprisonment, greatly affecting Vietnam's seafood exports to the EU market./.
