Nghe An: Traffic congestion in lanes without non-stop toll tags
(Baonghean.vn) - On the first day of nationwide operation of non-stop toll collection (ETC), traffic through toll stations in Nghe An province went smoothly, although there was a slight congestion at times in the lane for vehicles without tags (mixed toll lane).

On the first day, it can be seen that the non-stop toll collection regulation was implemented quite smoothly. At Ben Thuy 2 Bridge Toll Station, in the non-stop toll lane, vehicles circulated quite quickly, because this form of toll collection applies automatic technology to identify vehicles moving through and deduct money from the traffic account. Accordingly, drivers do not have to lower their car windows, stop their vehicles, and each direction, if there was only 1 non-stop toll lane before, it has now been converted into 2 lanes. Meanwhile, there is currently only 1 mixed toll lane (the toll lane applies both the non-stop electronic form but does not have enough money to deduct and the one-stop form - vehicles have not yet been labeled), so vehicles passing through here sometimes have to wait. Similarly, at Ben Thuy 1 Bridge Toll Station, there was sometimes a slight congestion in the mixed toll lane. However, according to records, there were no cases of drivers intentionally violating the law. Photo: Dinh Tuyen |

The reason for the slight congestion in the mixed toll lanes at toll stations is that, in addition to narrowing the lane, manual toll collection takes more time because you have to wait for the driver to give money, the toll collector to give tickets, and pay extra... Photo: Dinh Tuyen |

Also because of that inconvenience, on August 1, the number of vehicles queuing at the points providing non-stop electronic road toll collection services increased dramatically. Photo: Dinh Tuyen |

There are currently two service providers, including VETC Automatic Toll Collection Company Limited (e-Tag card) and Vietnam Digital Traffic Joint Stock Company (VDTC) provided by Viettel (ePass card). The identification cards of both units can be used at non-stop automatic toll stations nationwide, so customers can choose any company to register for the service (using VETC's e-Tag card can be used at non-stop stations operated by VDTC and vice versa). For vehicles that have been affixed with a free card to cross Ben Thuy Bridge for a long time, people do not need to affix another card but only need to pay money into their traffic account to be able to travel nationwide.
