Nghe An continues to implement the VNEN new school model.
(Baonghean.vn) - At the closing ceremony of the 2016-2017 school year organized by the Provincial People's Committee on the morning of August 16th, Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Minh Thong affirmed: In the coming school year, Nghe An will continue to implement the new school model. However, the implementation will be selective and based on the advantages of the program.
On the morning of August 16th, the Provincial People's Committee held a conference to summarize the 2016-2017 school year and to implement tasks for the 2017-2018 school year. Comrades Le Minh Thong - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and Nguyen Thi Kim Chi - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Education and Training, co-chaired the conference. Also attending were Comrade Cao Thi Hien - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; leaders of districts, cities, towns and a number of relevant departments and agencies. |

During the 2016-2017 school year, the Education sector intensified the implementation of school system planning to suit local socio-economic development conditions, meeting the needs of students for schooling and the learning needs of the people.
In addition, the sector has focused on standardizing and modernizing educational institutions. During the school year, an additional 53 schools were inspected and recognized as meeting national standards, bringing the total number to 995 (reaching 65.5%, an increase of 2.6% compared to the previous school year).
Career guidance and orientation for high school students have been strengthened. Over 5,770 ninth-grade students (14.74%) did not take the entrance exam for tenth grade; 38.21% of high school graduates did not participate in university entrance exams or admissions. The quality of childcare and education has achieved high results.

In particular, this school year, Nghe An continues to maintain its top position nationwide in terms of the quality of students winning national, regional, and international awards; with 8 students winning international and regional awards, including 5 international awards: 2 gold medals in Mathematics and Physics; 2 silver medals in Chemistry and Physics…; 88 students winning national awards for outstanding students… In addition, the quality of the teaching staff and education management officials is constantly improving.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Minh Thong highly appreciated the results achieved by the collective of management staff, teachers, and employees of the Education and Training sector in the 2016-2017 school year.
However, the comrade also pointed out existing shortcomings and limitations such as disparities in the quality of education and teachers between different regions; the unresolved issue of surplus and shortage of teachers; and some shortcomings in the socialization of education, management of revenue and expenditure, and the situation of extra tutoring that need to be promptly addressed and inspected. According to statistics, the entire province still has 1,075 surplus teachers.

On the eve of the 2017-2018 school year, the comrade requested that the Education sector continue to promote the spirit of unity, prepare well for the new school year, and successfully fulfill its tasks. This includes focusing on reforming the new education curriculum; effectively implementing the foreign language project; improving political and ideological education in schools; and narrowing the gap in educational quality between different regions.
In addition, attention should be paid to allocating resources for investment in infrastructure and equipment, especially for building boarding and semi-boarding facilities for students in mountainous areas; a review should be conducted to adjust the planning of the network and the education and training development plan for the period 2017-2021, in accordance with the actual situation as well as the targets and objectives of the congress.

Regarding the question of whether or not to implement the VNEN new school program, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed that Nghe An will continue to implement the new school model next school year. However, the implementation will be selective and based on the program's advantages. Furthermore, the education sector will not implement it under duress, but rather on the voluntary participation of schools, parents, and students, with a commitment from all parties involved.

On this occasion, 23 collectives under the Department were recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as outstanding workers; 16 Education and Training Departments received certificates of commendation from the Director of the Department for excellently fulfilling the emulation criteria for the 2016-2017 school year.
