Nghe An: Why did more than 2,000 students drop out of school in the 2016-2017 academic year?

(Baonghean.vn) - According to a summary by the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, in the 2016-2017 school year, the entire province had 2,080 students dropping out of school, 300 more than the previous school year. The highest number of dropouts was concentrated at the junior high school level.

Notably, while in previous years school dropout rates were mainly concentrated in mountainous and coastal areas, this phenomenon occurred in almost all localities during the past school year. The locality with the highest number of dropouts was Quynh Luu with 291 students, followed by Con Cuong with 219 students and Yen Thanh with 212 students.

In addition, several other localities also have quite high dropout rates, such as Tuong Duong: 150 students, Thanh Chuong: 178 students, Nghi Loc: 125 students, Tan Ky: 104 students, Quy Hop: 86 students, Hoang Mai town: 94 students, Thai Hoa town: 64 students, and Vinh city: 57 students. The only locality with no dropouts is Nam Dan district.

The main reasons for students dropping out of school are poor academic performance, dropping out to work, or dropping out to get married (in mountainous districts).
