Nghe An considers banning parking on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street

(Baonghean.vn) –That is the request of comrade Huynh Thanh Dien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to the People's Committee of Vinh City.The national online conference to review the work of ensuring traffic order and safety in 2016 and deploy key tasks of the Traffic Safety Year 2017 was held by the National Traffic Safety Committee on the morning of January 4.

The conference was chaired by Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh - Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee; Comrade Huynh Thanh Dien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the Nghe An bridge point.

In 2016, there were 21,589 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 8,685 people and injuring 19,280, a decrease of 1,261 cases compared to 2015. There were 82 aviation incidents, 41 prolonged traffic jams, 2 illegal racing cases and 28 cases of resistance against traffic police on duty.

During the year, the national traffic police force inspected and recorded nearly 4 million cases of road traffic safety violations, fined nearly 2,583 billion VND, detained 34,659 cars and over 560,000 motorbikes, revoked over 380,000 driving licenses; handled 3,790 cases of railway traffic safety violations, over 202,000 cases of inland waterway traffic safety violations.

The number of newly registered vehicles in 2016 included over 370 thousand cars, over 3 million motorbikes and 500 thousand electric motorbikes; bringing the total number of vehicles under management to 2.033 million cars and 47.1 million motorbikes. The total road use fee revenue nationwide reached 6,278 billion VND, exceeding 10.08% compared to 2015.

From resources, in 2016, the Ministry of Transport completed 57 key projects and works to put into operation, contributing to promoting socio-economic development and ensuring national security and defense; handling 238 black spots and potential traffic accident spots.

In Nghe An alone, in 2016, the whole province had 303 traffic accidents, killing 202 people and injuring 230. 26,461 patrols were organized, 97,096 violations were detected and recorded, over 71 billion VND was fined, nearly 1,600 cars and nearly 23,000 motorbikes were detained... During the year, the provincial police received and registered 10,886 new cars and 98,652 motorbikes, bringing the total number of cars under management in the area to 87,000 cars.

In 2017, the National Traffic Safety Committee set the following goals: Continue to reduce traffic accidents by 5-10% in all three criteria: number of cases, number of deaths and injuries compared to 2016; Improve traffic congestion in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, not allowing traffic congestion lasting more than 30 minutes; Resolutely and effectively implement "Traffic Safety Year 2017" - "Building traffic culture among youth" with the spirit of "Human life is above all".

Concluding the conference, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh requested ministries, member agencies of the National Traffic Safety Committee and People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities to urgently disseminate and effectively implement the Traffic Safety Year 2017 and the following years, including continuing to effectively implement Directive No. 18 of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in ensuring traffic order and safety, overcoming traffic congestion; linking the results of traffic safety work with the responsibilities of heads of ministries, branches, localities and units.

To ensure people's safe and convenient travel during the peak period of the Lunar New Year and the Dinh Dau Spring Festivals, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh requested ministries, branches and local People's Committees to strictly implement the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch No. 2239 on ensuring traffic order and safety during the Dinh Dau Lunar New Year and the 2017 Spring Festivals, especially ensuring the quality of passenger transport services; regulating and preventing traffic congestion and strictly inspecting and handling violations of traffic order and safety.

Implementing the direction of the Deputy Prime Minister, in 2017, Nghe An continued to accelerate progress, tighten quality management of investment activities in construction and maintenance of traffic infrastructure; Improve the quality of passenger transport services; Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of patrolling, controlling and handling violations of traffic safety laws; Carry out well the propaganda work to raise awareness of traffic safety, build "traffic culture" in the community.

At Nghe An bridge, comrade Huynh Thanh Dien requested Vinh City People's Committee to study the ban on parking cars on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Nguyen Duc Canh, Hai Thuong Lan Ong, Ly Tu Trong, Nguyen Trung Ngan streets and the area in front of Quan Lau market to ensure traffic is not congested./.
