Nghe An ranked 8th out of 63 localities in attracting foreign direct investment.

Attending the conference were comrade Nguyen Nhu Khoi - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council and representatives of leaders of departments and branches.

Reporting on the socio-economic development results in the first 6 months of 2022, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Investment Nguyen Van Truong said that the growth rate of the province's gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in the first 6 months of 2023 is estimated at 5.79% (in the first quarter it increased by 7.60%; in the second quarter it increased by 4.31%), higher than the average growth rate in the first 6 months of the year of the whole country (reaching 3.72%).

Of which, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increased by 4.26%; the industry and construction sector increased by 4.31% (industry alone increased by 3.31%); the service sector increased by 7.91%; product tax minus product subsidies increased by 4.24%.

The index of industrial production (IIP) for the first 6 months is estimated to increase by 1.79%. Total retail sales of goods and consumer services are estimated at VND55,408 billion, up 11.98% over the same period. The number of tourists is estimated at 4.9 million, up 22% over the same period; tourism service revenue is estimated at VND4,434 billion, up 42% over the same period.

State budget revenue in the first 6 months of the year is estimated at VND8,489 billion, reaching 53.5% of the estimate assigned by the Provincial People's Council and equal to 80.6% compared to the same period. Local budget expenditure is estimated at VND16,862 billion, reaching 50.8% of the estimate.

The work of disbursing public investment capital and implementing 3 national target programs has been directed and implemented vigorously from the beginning of the year. As of June 30, 2023, the total public investment plan for 2023 has disbursed VND 2,923,699 billion, reaching 32.37% of the plan.

As of June 30, 2023, there were 66 newly licensed projects (up 13.79% over the same period) and 84 projects adjusted; the total newly licensed and increased capital was VND 22,309.7 billion, of which newly licensed capital was VND 19,838 billion, up 1.34 times over the same period. Notably, Nghe An province rose to 8th place out of 63 localities in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) with a total newly licensed and adjusted capital of 725.4 million USD; in the first 6 months of the year, it attracted 08 FDI projects with a registered capital of 613.8 million USD.

The Provincial People's Committee also organizes well the cultural movements and activities at the grassroots level, guides and creates conditions for people to participate in creating, enjoying cultural values ​​and organizing community cultural activities. The education sector has achieved many achievements in mass education and key education.

Recently, the Provincial People's Committee has focused on directing the implementation of Project No. 06/CP. The province's electronic identification collection results ranked 3rd nationwide (after Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City), and it is one of 22 localities that has soon completed the issuance of chip-embedded citizen identification cards to 100% of eligible citizens in the area.

National defense, security and social order and safety are ensured. Crime prevention and control work is strengthened; crime decreased by 8.4% compared to the same period in 2022.

At the press conference, reporters from press agencies raised a number of practical issues and recommended that all levels and sectors promptly find solutions to overcome them.

Among them, there are some outstanding issues such as: difficulties in the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 1A; the lack of human resources in the tourism industry; the Vinh Hang Ecological Cemetery Park project... Besides, some situations such as the lack of secondary schools in Dong Vinh ward, Vinh city; people in some areas lack clean water... were also raised at the press conference. Representatives of relevant departments, branches and sectors answered some of the opinions raised by reporters.

Concluding the press conference, Comrade Bui Dinh Long acknowledged the support of the press agencies in the common success of the province. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed: The goals and tasks of the socio-economic development plan for 2023 set very high requirements in the context of forecasts of continuing to face many difficulties, challenges, and unpredictable fluctuations. Therefore, in the last 6 months of the year, the Provincial People's Committee will continue to closely monitor the situation, resolutely direct, operate, deploy, and synchronously implement tasks and solutions, striving to complete the set targets and plans at the highest level.
