Nghe An - Xieng Khouang coordinate in managing forest resources and wild animals

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of July 25, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An province and the Department of Agriculture and Forestry of Xieng Khouang province (Laos) held a conference to exchange experiences in managing and preventing the trading of forest resources in the border area between the two provinces.

The conference was held this time, in addition to planning cooperation in protecting forest resources and wild animals between the two provinces of Xieng Khouang - Nghe An, to exchange experiences in forest management and protection and biodiversity conservation in the form of community participation.

At the conference, representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An province presented on forest protection and management, forest animal management, mulberry cultivation and sericulture and some related contents; representatives of the Xieng Khouang Department of Agriculture and Forestry presented on experience in managing forest resources and forest animals (conservation forests and protection forests); implementation of the Border Law (issues discovered and measures to strengthen); roadmap and cooperation methods.

The conference reached an agreement that in the 2018-2020 period, it will be agreed to put the management of forest resources and wild animals in the border area between the two provinces into the common issue of Nghe An and Xieng Khouang provinces, in order to make the forest situation in the border area develop sustainably and ensure increasing security.

The two sides need to exchange professional experience in the field of forest resource management and biodiversity conservation for three types of forests; strengthen the enforcement of the Border Law at the border gates of the two provinces; in case of violations, the two sides will coordinate to promptly resolve them; establish a network and coordination points at the village and district levels to facilitate timely reporting of the situation. At the same time, build common data and cooperate in forest protection, prevent forest fires in border areas; regularly coordinate to inspect, monitor and prevent acts of forest destruction, illegal trading of forest resources and animals.

Concluding the conference, the two sides agreed to stipulate a clear and specific cooperation plan for joint implementation, ensuring the effective protection of forests and wild animals in the border area. At the same time, to promote the friendly relationship and development cooperation between the two sides, they agreed to alternately organize workshops to exchange experiences in forest resource and wild animal management at least once a year to inform about the implementation situation, difficulties and challenges, and jointly find solutions and timely prevention./.
