In total, since the beginning of the year, the whole province has had 22 fishing boats fined for disconnecting the monitoring device while fishing, with a total fine of 481 million VND.

In addition to the main fine, some ship owners and captains also have their captain and chief engineer certificates temporarily suspended for 1-3 months.

Mr. Tran Nhu Long - Deputy Head of the Department of Fisheries - Fisheries Control said: The situation of fishing vessels losing VMS signal while fishing at sea is still very complicated. Although the number of violating vessels has decreased, Nghe An is one of the provinces with many fishing vessels losing connection; in the first 5 months of the year, there were still 96 fishing vessels losing VMS connection for over 6 months and 41 fishing vessels with a length of over 24 m losing signal for over 10 days at sea, the most among 28 coastal provinces and cities.

Therefore, along with increasing patrols and surveillance at sea, the Provincial People's Committee is resolutely directing the handling of fishing vessels that lose VMS connection signals; strengthening inspection, verification and punishment of fishing vessels that lose VMS connection signals for more than 6 hours without reason and without reporting./.
