Suspect Dadaev states motive for murdering Russian opposition leader Nemtsov
The Rosbalt website reported on the evening of March 8, citing sources from law enforcement agencies, that Zaur Dadaev, convicted of murdering opposition leader and former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Boris Nemtsov, apparently confessed that his motive for the crime stemmed from religious reasons.
According to the source, Dadaev confessed that in January, he learned that Nemtsov "had repeatedly authorized the making of negative statements against Muslims in Russia," and subsequently decided to kill the opposition politician.

Rosbalt's source noted, "Dadaev has in fact confessed to committing this crime, so there may not be any further large-scale revelations or arrests."
On March 8, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow issued arrest warrants for five suspects in the murder of Nemtsov. Zaur Dadaev and Anzor Gubashev were detained until April 28. Suspects Temerlan Eskerhanov, Khamzat Bakhaev, and Shagit Gubashev were detained until May 7-8.
The court stated that Dadaev pleaded guilty, while the Gubashev brothers, Bakhaev, and Eskerhanov continue to deny the charges.
